Now we're cooking. May saw a couple of upsets, but most of what we learned came from the closeness of games that went the right way.

Last Weekend After a few hectic weekends of WFTDA action, the last weekend in March provided some respite. Montreal’s visit to--and near upset of--Windy City was the weekend’s biggest bout, but it looks unlikely to have a major impact on the rankings.

There's a lot more action in the Power Rankings this month as teams start to kick off their seasons in earnest. We’ve got our first ranking debut of the year, and another team returning after a lengthy absence. Want to skip the reasoning and jump straight to rankings? Go on then.

Steel City's Steel Hurtin' ventured to Detroit on Saturday, and in a wild finish, the Detroit Derby Girls came from behind in the game's final jam to take a 158-157 victory.

Last Weekend's Bouts Last weekend saw two long-running local rivalries return for 2013: Sacred City (27 WFTDA) travelled to Angel City (DNN #19, 18 WFTDA), and Montreal (DNN #17, 17 WFTDA) travelled to Boston (DNN #21, 20 WFTDA). Both games went as the rankings expected, but may well provide some early season indications of teams’ fortunes in 2013.

BURLINGTON, VT -- After a close, tough loss to 4E Charm City on Friday and a stunning upset at the hands of 10E DC on Saturday, 5E Steel City managed to blow 9E Dutchland out 476-107 on their way to ninth place.

BURLINGTON, VT -- Apparently inspired by Boston's stunning first-half performance against heavily favored Philly on Friday, 10E DC jumped out to an astonishing 44-0 lead over 5E Steel City to open their consolation-round bout and continued to lead Steel City until the final minutes of the first half.

BURLINGTON, VT -- A persistent performance from 5E Steel City kept the outcome of their quarterfinal matchup with 4E Charm City moderately in question for the first three-quarters of the contest, but in the end it turned out like their previous two playoff meetings: Charm City led from the start and came out on top, this time 258-214.

BURLINGTON, VT -- It’s weekend three of the four-week cycle of the WFTDA regional playoffs. After the intensity of the upset-heavy North Centrals and last weekend’s West Playoffs -- a tournament that saw four of the five placement bouts come down to the last jam -- it would appear on paper that the historically more stable East Playoffs may be a little less hectic.

Top WFTDA / MRDA Action (6) Rat City @ DC (Friday), (6) Rat City @ (7) Charm City (Saturday), (19) Steel City vs (6) Rat City (Sunday) -- The third edition of a unique East / West rivalry takes place in Baltimore this weekend as the key bout in a three-game trip for Rat City.
