Now we're cooking. May saw a couple of upsets, but most of what we learned came from the closeness of games that went the right way.

LOS ANGELES, CA--The Rose City Rollers took on Angel City Derby Girls in a Sunday midday hangover game, having played the Los Angeles Derby Dolls on the banked track the night prior. The two teams entered having finished their 2012 Western Regionals match-up at 194-147, in Rose's favor – a closer-than-expected finish at the time.

RICHMOND, CA -- Rose City and Bay Area have history.Bay drew first blood in 2008 with an opening day win over the team from Portland, and stopped Rose making their maiden Championships appearance with a win in the third-place game in 2010. Rose got revenge for that in 2011 with a first-day win of their own.

RICHMOND, CA -- In the second quarterfinal game of the WFTDA West Region Playoffs -- and the second game of the day for 8th seeded Angel City, who had barely gotten past 9W Wasatch in the tournament opener -- top seed Rose City was widely expected to crush ACDG, but the ladies from Los Angeles refused to stick to the script.

RICHMOND, CA -- This weekend the WFTDA roadshow moves on to California's Bay Area for Bay of Reckoning -- the 2012 West region playoffs. While it's almost possible to fill in two Championships teams in all the other regions before a whistle is blown, the West is wide open.

LAS VEGAS, NV -- Rose City came into their Rollercon weekend hoping that they'd be in a position to repeat their hard-fought 151-115 win over Denver from earlier in the season. However, the complete lack of their primary jammer rotation – Scald Eagle (broken fibula), White Flight (meniscus), and Soulfearic Acid (did not travel) – helped send them to their second blowout loss of the weekend.

FEASTERVILLE, PA--Gotham were pushed hard by Rose, but ran out 221-152 victors after an early second-half run of Rose penalties and injuries put the game out of the Portland team's reach.

FEASTERVILLE, PA -- Rose City (2 DNN, 3W WFTDA) didn’t have much trouble with a challenge from Steel City (18 DNN, 4E WFTDA), blasting to a 164-37 lead at halftime before winning 275-70.

FEASTERVILLE, PA -- This Sunday's ECDX meeting between Rose City's Wheels of Justice versus Gotham Girls All-Stars has the potential to be one of the best bouts of the year so far.
