UPDATE 4:30 CT -- Updated to reflect results of VRDL / Silicon Valley at Dust Devil.
With the second quarter WFTDA rankings period closing at the end of the month, June's bouts represent the final chances for teams to solidify their seeding for the September and October regional tournaments -- or claim an invite by breaking into their region's top ten.
PORTLAND, OR -- The Rat City-Rose City rivalry is as old as Pacific Northwest flat-track roller derby. Separated by a 150-mile stretch of the I-5 corridor, skaters from these leagues meet in one form or another (home team bouts, travel team bouts, scrimmages, casual drinks, etc.) year-round.
PORTLAND, OR -- In a bout that may be remembered best for its lack of skating rather than actual play, Rat City used delayed starts and three jams in which the jammers were never released to come within ten points of beating the defending WFTDA champion Rocky Mountain, 117-107.

PORTLAND, OR -- In a back and forth game that was almost completely decided by an enormous pileup of untimely jammer penalties on both teams, 6W Rat City delivered the first and only upset of Friday's opening action with a 139-128 win over 3W Denver. The win eliminated Denver from contention in the Championships tournament they'll hold in early November.
The second straight week of the WFTDA regional playoffs begin on Friday in Portland, OR; Rose City hosts the Bridgetown Brawl. Games begin at 10:30am Pacific on Friday, September 23rd and conclude on Sunday with the championship at 5:30pm Pacific.
Have you dreamed of participating in a roller derby championship tournament? If you are a referee or non-skating official, you could get your chance in October.
