BROOMFIELD, CO -- East Region queens Gotham became the WFTDA queens for the second time by defeating Oly in the final bout of the 2011 WFTDA Championships, 140-97. The win capped Gotham's second undefeated season and ended Oly's season one game short of a perfect run.
BROOMFIELD, CO - The Kansas City Roller Warriors, after arguably two upset back-and-forth victories, earned this shot at the finals tomorrow. But to get there, they'd have to take on the Oly Rollers, the winningest WFTDA team ever, who have never lost a WFTDA sanctioned game to anyone but Rocky Mountain. Oly rolled over Philly and looked primed to do the same to Kansas City.
BROOMFIELD, CO -- The top seed from the West, Oly, easily ejected the East's 2 seed in the last quarterfinal of the WFTDA Championships tournament. Oly took the lead on the game's second jam and never trailed again on their way to a 181-95 win and a berth in the semifinals against 2SC Kansas City.
BROOMFIELD, CO -- In the last bout of the WFTDA Championships opening round, experience solidly won out over enthusiasm as 2E Philly controlled 3NC Naptown for the whole game. Philly only allowed Naptown to score in 5 first-half jams on their way to a 104-20 lead at the halftime break and cruised through the second for the biggest blowout of Day 1, 225-68.
PORTLAND, OR -- 2W Rocky Mountain put up a strong challenge to the region's top seed, but 1W Oly remained undefeated for 2011 by rebuffing them in the championship game of the 2011 WFTDA West Region Playoffs, 143-106. Rocky Mountain held the lead for only the first 4 jams before Oly took the lead for good.
PORTLAND, OR -- After a Saturday of lopsided blowouts and some controversial stall derby, 1W Oly and 4W Rose City played a much more traditional game of high speeds and hard hits that clearly pleased a Portland crowd.
[EDITOR'S NOTE - A previous version of this article stated that Oly had defeated Jet City 220-10 earlier this year; this was incorrect. Previous to this game, the most recent Oly / Jet City game was a 225-83 win for Oly in July 2010. Apologies for the error!]
The second straight week of the WFTDA regional playoffs begin on Friday in Portland, OR; Rose City hosts the Bridgetown Brawl. Games begin at 10:30am Pacific on Friday, September 23rd and conclude on Sunday with the championship at 5:30pm Pacific.
