After the intensity of the upset-heavy North Centrals and last weekend’s West Playoffs -- a tournament that saw four of the five placement bouts come down to the last jam -- it would appear on paper that the historically more stable East Playoffs may be a little less hectic.

FEASTERVILLE, PA -- In the Friday-night WFTDA bout that kicked off Philly's sixth annual East Coast Derby Extravaganza, Texas (5 DNN, 1SC WFTDA) defeated Montreal (19 DNN, 6E WFTDA) 197-55, using a mix of physical jammer play and very effective control over pack definition to claim victory.

FEASTERVILLE, PA -- Friday night's leadoff WFTDA bout for this year's ECDX sets up a rematch of one of last year's most surprising upsets, as Montreal (#19 DNN, 6E WFTDA) attempts to repeat their 104-88 victory over Texas (#5 DNN, 1SC WFTDA). Montreal also has a chance to crack the top three in the East when they battle Charm City (#14 DNN, 3E WFTDA) on Saturday night.

With the second quarter WFTDA rankings period closing at the end of the month, June's bouts represent the final chances for teams to solidify their seeding for the September and October regional tournaments -- or claim an invite by breaking into their region's top ten.

ST. PAUL, MN -- Minnesota (DNN #12, WFTDA 2NC) used suffocating team defense and some flashy offense from key jammers Medusa, Harmony Killerbruise and Juke Boxx to put up a convincing win over Montreal (DNN #18, WFTDA 6E) on Saturday night, 136-95. Minnesota was solidly ahead by the 15 minute mark and led by as much as 72 points before Montreal narrowed it a bit in the final ten minutes.

BALTIMORE, MD -- The 5th place bout of the 2011 WFTDA East Region Playoffs was the first WFTDA regional game played between teams not from the US -- and turned out to be one of the most exciting bouts of the weekend.
