Now we're cooking. May saw a couple of upsets, but most of what we learned came from the closeness of games that went the right way.

BALLWIN, MO--In three prior “Show Me State” battles, Kansas City (DNN #18, WFTDA #19) had always trumped cross-state opponent Arch Rival. That streak came to an end Saturday night as St. Louis (WFTDA #13) utilized a 37-0 second-period sprint en route to a 164-99 victory at Midwest Sport Hockey in front of 575.

ATLANTA, GA -- In the second bout of the WFTDA Championships opening round, 2NC Minnesota got revenge for a late-second unsanctioned loss against 3SC Kansas City with a 96 point win, 244-168. Kansas City still had an outside chance with under ten minutes to play, but a late 23-0 followed by a 15-0 for Minnesota put the game far out of reach.

LINCOLN, NE -- The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association tonight conducted a random draw to determine the bracket for November’s Championship Tournament. Each region’s #1 seed receives a first round bye; the #3 seed from each region will face a #2 from another region and the victor of that match-up proceeds to face a #1 from a third.

LINCOLN, NE -- The third-place game of the Landlocked Lace-up was, like many of the weekend's bouts, characterised by heavy penalties -- and in this one, it was the jammer penalties that proved crucial. Tampa led through much of the first half but fell into a substantial hole after handing Kansas City two successive powerjams halfway through the second period.

LINCOLN, NE--What was a two-point game at halftime turned into a 70-point rout thanks to a 96-12 run across much of the second half for Atlanta before Kansas City put up their first double-digit jam of the second period with precious little time to undo the damage.

LINCOLN, NE -- In the final quarterfinal match of Friday's WFTDA South Central playoff action, host league and 7 seed No Coast gave 2 seed Kansas City a very serious first-half scare but couldn't keep it up for the final 30 minutes. No Coast was down by just six points at the break, but Kansas City skated into the semifinals with a 41 point win, 171-130.

LINCOLN, NE -- For the second time in three years, the No Coast Roller Girls host the WFTDA South Central Playoffs in Lincoln, Nebraska. With nine of the 12 qualifiers for November's WFTDA Championships in Atlanta already set, this weekend will fill out the remaining slots -- and a drawing following the final game will set the bracket for Championships.
