South Central 5th Place: 5SC Houston Survives 7SC No Coast's Comeback, 173 - 157

KANSAS CITY, MO -- When 5 seed Houston and 7 seed No Coast last met in the playoffs, Houston beat them by a factor of four to one -- 183-45 at the 2009 South Central tournament. No Coast has been slowly marching up the rankings since that time and came into this game in a much stronger position.

South Central Consolation: 5SC Houston Staves Off 9SC Gold Coast, 138-106

KANSAS CITY, MO -- After having an unexpectedly tough time against 10SC Omaha earlier in the day, 5SC Houston went up against 9SC Gold Coast and managed to stay just a few steps and a few jams ahead of their opponents to win 138-106. Houston's victory gives them a shot at maintaining their regional standing when they play for 5th place tomorrow.

South Central Consolation: 5SC Houston Overpowers 10SC Omaha, 170-103

KANSAS CITY, MO -- In a game that was all about lopsided powerjam wins on both sides, bottom seed Omaha rode a very impressive performance from jammer Anna Maniac to stay right with 5 seed Houston -- until the last 12 minutes of the game, when daisy-chained jammer penalties on Omaha resulted in a 72-8 run for Houston to end the game.

South Central Quarterfinal: 4SC Atlanta Hangs On Against 5SC Houston, 133-117

KANSAS CITY, MO -- 5SC Houston managed to erase almost all of a 62 point deficit against 4SC Atlanta and was as close as 5 points away with 5 minutes to play, but Atlanta hung on to deny Houston the upset in a 133-117 final.

2011 WFTDA South Central Region Playoffs Preview

The third straight weekend of the WFTDA regional playoffs begins on Friday in Kansas City, MO, as the Kansas City Roller Warriors host the Show Me Der-B-Q. Games begin at 10am Central on Friday, September 30th and conclude on Sunday with the championship at 6:30pm Central.

#14 Montreal Squeaks Past Houston, 126-121

HOUSTON, TX -- Houston Roller Derby’s HaRD Knocks Hosted Montreal’s New Skids on the Block in a nail biter on Saturday. Every jam was packed with heavy defense and determined offense in what was a very evenly matched bout, but in the end Montreal pulled it out in a 126-121 final.
