ST. PAUL, MN -- The four weeks of WFTDA Regionals continue up North this Friday, September 18, as the Minnesota Rollergirls host the second event in the cycle, the North Central tournament -- a/k/a the Brawl of America.
RALEIGH, NC -- The Boston Massacre, seeded #5 in the Eastern Regionals, scored their second upset of the tournament when it mattered the most. They'd already shut down #4 Carolina in their first match, and after a lopsided loss to top seed Gotham in the semifinals, came up against #3 seed Charm City in the third-place game with the tournament's final trip to Nationals on the line.
RALEIGH, NC -- Philly and Gotham provided what was by far the most dramatic bout of the Eastern Regionals, trading the lead all through the second half -- and 4 times in the last jam alone -- before Philly scored a one-point upset of Gotham to end Gotham's two-year, 18 game winning streak by just one last-second point, 90-89.
CHICAGO, IL -- “I feel overmatched,” Tommy Lee Jones’ character says in “No Country for Old Men.” Also fighting an unstoppable and unforgiving force, the Windy City Rollers' “B” team knew the feeling Saturday night. The Second Wind warmed up the UIC Pavilion crowd by hosting the Burning River Roller Girls prior to the main event between the Windy City All-Stars and Charm City.
PORTLAND, ME -- Maine Roller Derby’s Port Authorities, ranked #9 in the east took on the DC Rollergirls’ All-Stars, ranked #11 in the east, in Portland Maine on August 29, 2009 in a WFTDA-sanctioned bout. Maine came out on top with a final score of 125 to 104.
In a dusty hockey rink in suburban Melbourne, Australia, rollergirls were swinging from the rafters - a solid six hours before the afterparty even starts. Any night that starts like this has to end well.
