Connecticut Suppresses PVRD WMD, 88-22

HOLYOKE, MA -- The all-star squad of the Connecticut Rollergirls, the Stepford Sabotage, pitched a perfect shutout in the first half of their Saturday night match with hosting Pioneer Valley Western Mass Destruction.

PVRD Dirty Dozen Fights Back Death Quads, 60-50

HOLYOKE, MA -- The men's side of Pioneer Valley Roller Derby, the Dirty Dozen, held off a late second-half rally from the Connecticut Death Quads to score a hard-fought 60-50 win on Saturday night. It was the third meeting for the two teams, and the Dirty Dozen gained revenge for a narrow 49-46 upset loss to CTDQ in April.

Manics Head to Championships, Fury Take First Win in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL -- In the final regular-season doubleheader of the Windy City local season, both faceoffs ended in closely contested upsets, as the Fury finally claimed their first win of the year and the perennial also-rans of the WCR, the Manic Attackers continued their charmed fourth season by winning their way into their first championship-bout appearance.

Maine Handles Dutchland, 103-69

PORTLAND, ME -- On Saturday, May 23rd, 2009 Maine Roller Derby's Port Authorities hosted the Dutchland Derby Rollers' All-Stars in Portland, Maine for a WFTDA sanctioned game.  Both teams entered the game with short losing streaks; the Port Authorities (officially ranked #9 in the East), to Boston (128-24), Charm City (157-52), and Providence (110-59). Dutchland (not yet eligible for WFTDA rankings) previously lost out to DC (90-83) and Steel City (230-82).

In Gotham, Manhattan Stifles Brooklyn, 121-93

NEW YORK, NY -- Gotham Girls Roller Derby's fifth anniversary season rolled on with a matchup of the original two GGRD home teams: the Manhattan Mayhem and Brooklyn Bombshells. As a favorite for the GGRD Championship, Manhattan started off the season strong, locking up the rookie-heavy Bombshells by a score of 121-93.

PROVIDENCE, RI -- In a May 9th match between two New England rivals, Providence fell into an early 27-8 hole against Maine but charged back to notch a solid victory, 110-59. With this win following up a defeat of Harrisburg, it was the first time Providence had won back to back bouts since summer 2006, and moved their 2009 record to 2-1. Maine remains winless in 2009, with two other losses to Boston and Charm City.

Manic Attackers and Hell's Belles Cruise in Windy City

CHICAGO, IL -- The fifth bout of the season on May 2 presented two matches that ended in near 2-1 score ratios. The evening's second match-up, which paired the Manics and The Fury, may not have been a surprise -- the Manics are riding the momentum of a rejuvenated team, while The Fury continue to struggle with the smallest roster on the league and a number of key veteran retirements.
