Derby News Network Power Rankings - September 2010

DNN WFTDA W/L Next Notes
1 Gotham
(+1)
1 E 2010 7-0
2009 7-2
TBD With thoroughly dominating performances averaging triple-digit margins against three top-ten teams in August, Gotham once again nudges Oly out of the top slot. Gotham and Oly remain the only Top 25 teams without a loss in 2010.
2 Oly
(-1)
1 W 2010 9-0
2009 12-0
TBD Last serious test was in early June, where they brought down current #10 Texas. We won't see them in action again until Westerns kick off on October 1.
2 W 2010 8-1
2009 8-7
10/23 vs Steel City An August trip to Chicago showed that RMRG is as dangerous as ever with a commanding 95-point win over #11 Windy City.
4 Philly

2 E 2010 11-3
2009 9-2
11/20 @ Carolina Played more or less to expectations in a busy 4-bout month, and hold steady as they prepare to try to repeat at late September's Eastern Regionals.
5 Denver

3 W 2010 7-1
2009 12-3
TBD Had almost no trouble with #14 Madison in August, up 125-19 at the half on the way to a big win. Like most of the other Western teams they'll be taking September off as Westerns loom on October 1.
6 Rat City
(+1)
5 W 2010 6-5
2009 5-7
TBD Rat City is one of the few to move this month, swapping spots with Rose City as they defeated them solidly at Hometown Throwdown.
7 Rose City
(-1)
4 W 2010 7-4
2009 5-3
TBD Portland's girls had an unexpectedly rough time at the Hometown Throwdown, needing some last-jam luck against Bay Area to avoid going 0-3. They lose a spot to Rat City and suddenly find themselves the underdog in their upcoming rematch at Westerns.
8 Bay Area
(+6)
6 W 2010 10-5
2009 5-5
TBD Bay Area becomes the team with the largest ever swing over time on the Power Rankings -- a high of #5 in May 2009, a low of #22 in April 2010, and a return to the top ten this month with a very strong showing at Hometown Throwdown.
9 Charm City
(-1)
4 E 2010 5-6
2009 13-5
9/11 vs San Diego Came out victorious in a back-and-forth classic against Boston in August, but lose a slot to Bay Area's big jump. The Baltimore girls have one more tuneup before Eastern Regionals as they take on black sheep San Diego on September 11.
10 Texas
(-1)
1 SC 2010 4-5
2009 11-2
9/25 @ Windy City Delivered an expected beatdown on regional rival Dallas in August, 209-35, but are pushed down to the very edge of the top ten by Bay Area moving up.
11 Windy City
(-1)
1 NC 2010 3-3
2009 10-2
9/10 @ [TBA] A big 95-point loss at home to Rocky Mountain might galvanize WCR going into tournament season, as they'll be hosting the Championships this year. For now they slip back out of the top ten as they ramp up for the early September North Central tournament.
12 Boston
(-1)
3 E 2010 4-7
2009 10-9
TBD Went blow-for-blow with #9 Charm City for the whole 60 minutes in an August meeting, and might very well get a rematch late this month at Eastern Regionals.
13 Detroit
(-1)
2 NC 2010 9-2
2009 8-6
9/10 @ [TBA] Did slightly better than expected against #4 Philly (120-89) and slightly worse than expected against #18 Kansas City (138-109); those results more or less cancel out, with Detroit's movement based on being passed by Bay Area.
14 Madison
(-1)
3 NC 2010 1-7
2009 7-4
9/10 @ North Star Madison's lopsided losing record doesn't seem to really reflect their skill level, as three of those losses have been by a couple of jams against tough teams. Denver, though, steamrolled them in August. They have a good shot at a second trip to the championship tournament if they can play their game at Sept. 10-12th's North Central playoffs.
15 San Diego

- 2010 11-1
2009 8-3
9/11 @ Charm City The sole non-WFTDA team in the rankings had no trouble at all against a local team from Tucson in August, 212-57. SDDD gets a rare chance to show their stuff against a top-ten WFTDA league when they take on #9 Charm City in September.
16 Steel City

5 E 2010 9-3
2009 11-3
10/23 @ Rocky Mountain Steel City finally got a substantial win over a Power Ranked team when they smacked down #22 Brewcity by 126 points. They'll try to take that momentum against #9 Charm City in the first round at Eastern Regionals, with a shot at the Championships on the line.
17 London

- 2010 2-2
2009 5-0
10/2 @ Pickup Teams With very little data to help place them relative to the stateside teams, London continues to hang out around the middle of the pack.
18 Kansas City

3 SC 2010 5-4
2009 9-4
TBD Like Detroit, Kansas City both under- and over-performed at the ARRGageddon event -- coming within 29 points of Detroit and staying 40 points ahead of unranked Arch Rival. With those results more or less a wash, KCRW holds steady.
19 Cincinnati

4 NC 2010 9-3
2009 10-5
9/10 @ Brewcity The result of Cincinnati's August head-to-head with Kansas City tracked with their back-to-back rankings going into it, as Kansas City won by 40. If anybody is going to surprise their way past one of the top three in the North Central, though, Cincy might be the one to do it.
20 Atlanta

2 SC 2010 11-3
2009 8-8
TBD Atlanta got a pretty good scare from unranked Carolina, who took a lead into the last 10 minutes against Atlanta in late August but couldn't hold it. It's unclear whether that outcome was an outlier for Atlanta or for Carolina just yet, so Atlanta holds for the moment.
21 Montreal

6 E 2010 11-3
2009 5-6
10/2 @ San Diego Montreal continues to hibernate after their busy and successful 2010, but they'll be back late in the month to go up against Boston in the first round of Easterns.
22 Brewcity

5 NC 2010 7-3
2009 6-4
9/10 @ Cincinnati The Milwaukee crew's spot looks a bit shaky after they absorbed a 171-45 shellacking at the hands of Steel City. They hang in there with the help of an 80 point win over North Star in July, but they'll have to have a strong turnaround quickly if they want to advance past Cincinnati in the NC playoffs.
23 Jet City
(+1)
7 W 2010 5-2
2009 5-1
TBD No action in August but they pick up a slot as Providence drops off.
24 Tampa
(+1)
6 SC 2010 5-10
2009 7-5
11/6 @ [TBA] Like Jet City, no action in August but they pick up a slot as Providence drops off.
25 Dallas

4 SC 2010 11-7
2009 7-3
9/18 @ Pacific Although they were crushed by #9 Texas in August, Dallas inches back on the rankings as Providence drops out, based on Dallas and Tampa's 104-101 thriller in July.

HELLARAD
www.wearehellarad.com

My Shirt

I wore my shirt yesterday & had to explain it to no less than 3 non derby people. =P

I love it.

Maybe it should say "Westerns

Maybe it should say "Westerns the only Nationals"

what's nationals?

http://www.uproaronthelakeshore.com/

we're international now.

my point exactly.

my point exactly.

Hardwork pays!

They're getting straight up A's!
BAY AREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

WHAT??? ROBUSTLY BUT

WHAT??? ROBUSTLY BUT POLITELY, IT'S AN OUTRAGE I TELL YOU!!!

ooo I get to point out an error....

My geek radar just went off the chart!

Re: your point about the Chicago Outfit
" Their very recent entry into the WFTDA, though, means they'll be the only team in this list not appearing in their 2010 regional tournament."

not true!

London Rollergirls was also unable to get the sanctioned bouts in time to qualify for regionals. Sadlings. :(

In our defense...

... "in this list" was referring to the "On the Bubble" list, not the Power Rankings list. Unless something REALLY unexpected happens, we won't be seeing San Diego at regionals either :)

...I can see your point, but

...I can see your point, but I guess it read differently in my 5-8 hours ahead induced delirium.

Your accuracy rate.....

is ASTONISHING!

I've been thinking of buying some stocks. If you study the market with the same intensity as you study derby, I'll buy your picks!

Thank you DNN, for keeping track of all the ins and outs for me!

WOW what high scores will do for you.

Throwdown stats I looked at

63-46 at the half BAD Gotham
124-12 second half (Now that is some IMPRESSIVE DEFENSE)

89-17 at the half Rose Gotham (Impressive defense again)
101-46 second half

67-22 at the half Rat Gotham
78-33 second half

Oh well so you can beat someone by a bunch....., but when you hold them in the teens, skate clean, and still throw up the digits that deserve a standing ovation.

So the top 5 teams losses are to who?

Philly (Rat, Rose, Oly)
Rocky Mt (Oly)
Denver (Philly)

My point is Philly has taken and given a beaten in 2010 and I really see the Eastern Regionals being exciting once again. And RMRG they have averaged +111 over 9 games and of course Gotham is impressively breaking scoreboards with their +122.8 avg over 7 games.

But I can see DNN logic

Oly had a +56 avg over Charm,Boston and Mad
Gotham had a +124 over the same three.
Hell Rocky had a +137 over Charm who beat Boston and Texas.

But wouldn't that drop the Undefeated Currently Reigning Champions to #3?

**Pulls hair out**

I am glad you do this, because I have better things to do, like planning to go to the Championships and hopefully Westerns too.

dude

I think I know something that might help with that...condition. It's called beer.

Just Thought it Could Use a Little Restating

From the Power Rankings intro article blurb thinger:

"..we had a pretty good run in August -- 20 hits and 2 misses for a monthly accuracy of 90%..."

Gotham never lower than #2 since Feb 09, thats neat...

I guess that is good marketing, I guess I could say I have 100% accuracy since Jan 09, with a
20-0 "pickem' they won't lose" record. lol that's pretty good, huh.

I just think its crazy to knock a 20-0 team who own the hydra from #1 and replace them with a team who didn't win their regionals and lost in the second round of Nationals.

From the March10 Power Rankings blurb thinger: "A skin-of-their-teeth, last-jam escape against a fierce Rose City team and a long, tense battle with Philly before finally taking control show that Oly isn't unstoppable, but until somebody can actually seal the deal on them, they're still the best. Their WFTDA win streak is now at 13...."

Actually 20 now.....

I know, I know who would win today, "....with a 20-0 "pickem' they won't lose" record...and 100% accuracy since Jan 09" you know who I would say. lol

But Oly has some tough games at Westerns to play first, so we will see when the time comes.

Vodka.....

Its always takes vodka. ;-)

it may be after nationals...

but the outfit will burst that bubble soon enough. we're taking on naptown again in december and this time, it won't be a stumble. :)

<3-ing her new team,
elle.

RUFKM???

I agree that last year, Western teams definitely stormed Nationals....But I guarantee that the Top 3 teams after this years regionals will be 2 eastern (Gotham/ Philly) teams & 1 western (Oly).

I'm also looking for the yearly, significant upset from a team like BAD or CharmCity during this years regional tournaments....

Let the games begin!!!!!
