1 E | 2009 2-0 2008 10-0 |
6/6 @ Carolina | The Gotham Girls chalked up another win against a tough East Region opponent in April, defeating Charm City 120-72. Gotham's all stars take the month off, but return in early June to take on another regional rival, Carolina.
1 NC | 2009 2-0 2008 12-4 |
6/27 @ Cincinnati | Windy City maintains their dominance in the North Central Region, recently trouncing up-and-coming Arch Rival by 141 points. They're idle in May, but face a serious test in late June at the East Coast Derby Extravaganza against Boston.
2 E | 2009 2-0 2008 10-4 |
6/13 @ Maine | After a few months off, the Liberty Belles sprang into action in April, taking down East Region rivals Carolina 85-46 and Boston 121-63 on successive weekends. After a June trip to Maine, Philly hosts the East Coast Derby Extravaganza later in the month, with big interregional matchups against Rat City and Kansas City.
1 SC | 2009 1-0 2008 10-4 |
5/3 vs Atlanta | No action or movement since last month. Barring an unexpected upset, they'll likely hold still in May as well, but June will bring a weekend trip to the Northeast during which Texas has booked three top-10 opponents, including a much-anticipated rematch against the team that knocked them most decisively off the modern derby throne: the Gotham Girls.
1 W | 2009 1-0 2008 13-3 |
5/9 vs Rat City | Bay Area sits at the top of a suddenly very competitive WFTDA West Region, but they'll have to get the Rat City monkey off their back to maintain that position -- the Seattle team has prevailed in all three previous meetings.
3 E | 2009 7-1 2008 9-2 |
5/16 @ Carolina | WFTDA's most active travel team so far this year moves up a notch, largely on a very strong second-half performance against Gotham. Down 69-24 at halftime, Charm City held Gotham to only a 3 point gain in the remaining period for a final score of 120-72 -- a feat no one else has lately managed.
5 E | 2009 1-3 2008 9-2 |
5/16 vs Rocky Mountain | Boston's 1-3 record so far this year looks underwhelming -- until you realize that those three losses were against #1 Gotham, #3 Philly, and a near miss versus #6 Charm City. Next up is a relatively rare East/West matchup against Rocky Mountain, who beat Boston 111-93 in their only prior meeting at ECE 2008.
4 E | 2009 1-1 2008 7-5 |
5/16 vs Charm City | Carolina slips just below Boston on the comparison of their recent bouts against Philly. While Philly won both handily, Boston seemed to be in the game longer while Carolina was uncharacteristically offensively impotent for much of the bout, only able to only muster 10 points in the first half. May gives Carolina a big chance for a statement win -- and to stake a claim to a higher Eastern Regionals seeding -- as they host the steadily improving Charm City.
2 W | 2009 3-0 2008 6-2 |
5/24 vs Pikes Peak | Oly trades places with Denver after securing a grueling 2-point victory over the Mile High Club.
3 W | 2009 4-1 2008 4-8 |
7/25 @ Atlanta | A remarkable 29-0 rally in the last 1:44 of their bout against Oly was impressive, but not quite enough to eke out a victory, so Denver drops a spot. We're hankering for a rematch at West Regionals, which Denver co-hosts in October.
4 W | 2009 1-1 2008 6-4 |
7/17 vs Carolina | No action or movement since last month. Unless they schedule additional bouts, it'll be another three months before we see the Wheels of Justice back in action.
5 W | 2009 0-1 2008 3-3 |
5/9 @ Bay Area | No action or movement since last month. Rat City has had a month to digest their narrow loss to Rose City, and has the opportunity to regain lost prominence in the forthcoming bout against Bay Area, the West Region's reigning power.
6 W | 2009 2-1 2008 6-3 |
5/16 vs Rat City | Duke City was already pretty well bracketed in on recent game data, so no movement on a narrow win over previously unranked San Diego. Rat City visits a week after their bout against Bay Area.
2 NC | 2009 1-1 2008 8-3 |
5/2 @ Grand Raggidy | No action, no movement since last month.
7 W | 2009 4-2 2008 10-3 |
5/24 @ Oly | Pikes Peak lost to Charm City by a respectable 148-111, though it's worth noting that Charm City played Gotham earlier that same night. May's bout against new West Region powerhouse Oly brings together two teams with similar composition and play style.
8 W | 2009 0-3 2008 12-4 |
5/16 @ Boston | Rocky Mountain lost in April to Team Awesome, whose Globetrotteresque roster complicates the exercise of using that data point when ranking their opponents. A repeat of last year's win over Boston would put give the 5280 Fight Club their first win for 2009.
- | 2009 3-1 2008 5-7 |
5/16 @ Sacred City | With a very narrow 6-point loss to #13 Duke City, the San Diego Wildfires become the first non-WFTDA team to earn a DNN Power Ranking.
2 SC | 2009 1-0 2008 5-2 |
5/2 vs No Coast | No action; falls one place on San Diego's debut.
5 NC | 2009 1-3 2008 5-2 |
5/31 @ Brewcity | A solid drubbing by Windy City is par for the North Central course, and doesn't impact Arch Rival's placement.
3 NC | 2009 0-0 2008 9-7 |
5/9 @ Cincinnati | No action so far in 2009, and slip one place on San Diego's Debut.
3 SC | 2009 1-0 2008 4-10 |
5/2 vs Atlanta | No action since last month.
4 NC | 2009 3-0 2008 12-7 |
5/9 vs Madison | Cross-state rivals Burning River couldn't quite complete an upset of the Black Sheep, falling 107-93 in April. In May, they'll be Madison's first dance partner of 2009.
9 W | 2009 1-1 2008 2-11 |
8/9 vs Duke City | No action since last month.
6 NC | 2009 1-0 2008 7-7 |
6/27 @ Brewcity | Minnesota's 10-point defeat of Grand Raggidy doesn't affect their placement.
7 NC | 2009 1-2 2008 7-8 |
5/2 vs Detroit | Down 37-8 at halftime against Minnesota, Grand Raggidy put up a 42-4 sooring run in the final ten minutes, but couldn't quite bring home the upset. The teams maintain their relative positions.
