East Quarterfinals: 6E London Ejects 3E Montreal, 191-122
BURLINGTON, VT -- In a long-awaited rematch of the DNN Reader Poll Bout of the Year from 2011, 6 seed London came back from a bumpy opening against 3 seed Montreal to win a key East Playoffs quarterfinal 191-122. The game seemed like a coin flip with 15 minutes to go, but became a near rout following a major unforced error from Montreal.
East Playoffs: 7E Boston Holds Off 10E DC, 226-131
BURLINGTON, VT -- When 7 seed Boston and 10 seed DC met in the second opening-round bout of the WFTDA East Playoffs, the game was mostly decided by an ice-cold start and an ice-cold end for the low seed. Boston scored 46 unanswered points to begin action, but DC played them more or less evenly for most of the second half to stay within shouting distance into the last ten minutes.
East Playoffs: 8E Carolina Dismantles 9E Dutchland, 304-75
BURLINGTON, VT -- In the opening bout of the East Region playoffs, 9 seed Dutchland -- sporting a considerably different roster than the one that appeared at last year's playoffs in Baltimore -- had all kinds of trouble against a much more tournament-experienced 8 seed Carolina.
Preview: 2012 WFTDA East Region Playoffs
BURLINGTON, VT -- It’s weekend three of the four-week cycle of the WFTDA regional playoffs. After the intensity of the upset-heavy North Centrals and last weekend’s West Playoffs -- a tournament that saw four of the five placement bouts come down to the last jam -- it would appear on paper that the historically more stable East Playoffs may be a little less hectic.
West Final: 4W Oly Vanquishes 2W Denver, 168-161
RICHMOND, CA -- In the final game of the WFTDA West Region Playoffs, 4W Oly overcame a tough Denver team -- and an equally tough crowd -- to win the region for the third time in four years. Denver led Oly with under 15 minutes to go, and the margin was single digits for the last ten minutes, but Oly stayed barely ahead to take the victory, 168-161.
West 3rd Place: 3W BAD Stymies 1W Rose, 135-123
RICHMOND, CA -- Rose City and Bay Area have history.Bay drew first blood in 2008 with an opening day win over the team from Portland, and stopped Rose making their maiden Championships appearance with a win in the third-place game in 2010. Rose got revenge for that in 2011 with a first-day win of their own.
West 5th Place: 6W Rat City Stops 5W Rocky Mountain, 196-171
RICHMOND, CA -- The fifth place game of the WFTDA West Region playoffs was predicted by the opening seeding, as #5 Rocky Mountain took on #6 Rat City -- but Rat City nudged Rocky Mountain out of that position, winning a defensive and often very slowly paced battle 196-171.
West 7th Place: 10W Sacred City Denies 8W Angel City, 147-146
RICHMOND, CA -- Angel City and Sacred City have a storied rivalry going back to 2007, with almost every single meeting between the teams coming down to the last few jams. In the seventh place of the West playoffs, it came down to literally the last few seconds.
West 9th Place: 8W Wasatch Finishes 7W Arizona, 245-134
RICHMOND, CA -- Coming into the West playoffs, two of the key storylines and questions were how 7 seed Arizona would handle the midseason departures of their 3 world-class additions Atomatrix, Joy Collision and Hockey Honey -- and whether Wasatch, appearing in their first postseason ever, would justify their placement.
West Semifinal: 2W Denver Beats Back 3W Bay Area, 187-167
RICHMOND, CA -- In what was the game of tournament season so far, Denver came back from a brutally hard-hitting first-half display from Bay Area to book their ticket to Championships in Atlanta. Bay Area led 124-71 at the half, but Denver skated out 187-167 victors.
West Consolation: 6W Rat City Shuts Down 8W Sacred City, 243-115
RICHMOND, CA -- In a consolation bout at Saturday's WFTDA West Region Playoffs, 6 seed Rat City slowly wore down 10 seed Sacred, who played with a lot of heart -- and a lot of support from the crowd -- but were unable to match the Seattle's team's talent.
West Consolation: 5W Rocky Mountain Contains 8W Angel City, 172-126
RICHMOND, CA -- In a Saturday consolation bout at the WFTDA West Region playoffs, lead changes near the start of the game suggested Angel City might keep Rocky from making Sunday's fifth-place playoff, but a 48-0 run for RMRG at the end of the first half put paid to any hopes the Scarlets might have had of an upset.
West Semifinals: 4W Oly Stops 1W Rose City, 188-121
RICHMOND, CA -- 4th seeded Oly, playing significantly more cohesively than they had on Friday against 5 seed Rocky Mountain, led for almost the whole bout in the process of landing a seeding upset on top seed Rose City. Oly's 188-121 win marked the first time a top seed had lost before the final game of a regional tournament since 2008.
West Consolation: 6W Rat City Overcomes 9W Wasatch, 244-172
RICHMOND, CA -- 9W Wasatch had a tough ask at the start of day two of the West playoff. Having lost out to Angel City in the first bout of day one, their first-round consolation battle was with 6W Rat City, who lost out in a tight encounter with Bay Area in the final bout of the day.
West Consolation: 5W Rocky Mountain Batters 7W Arizona, 279-76
RICHMOND, CA -- In the first consolation bout of the West playoffs, 5 seed Rocky Mountain wasted very little time getting in a dominant position against 7 seed Arizona. Two early big jams gave Rocky Mountain a 54-0 lead that they were never in danger of losing, and they eventually cruised to a fairly easy win by over 200 points, 279-76.
West Playoffs: 3W Bay Area Outshines 6W Rat City, 229-177
RICHMOND, CA -- The closing bout of Bay of Reckoning was a rematch of one of the closest bouts of the year so far -- Bay Area's five-point last jam victory in Seattle in June. The game left a lot of unfinished business between these two teams, and more than a few question marks next to the 3 seed vs 6 seed quarterfinal than would normally be expected given the ranking disparity.
West Playoffs: 2W Denver Squashes 8W Sacred, 339-86
RICHMOND, CA -- In both 2010 and 2011, Denver came into the West playoffs with expectations of advancing to Championships, but got booted in their first game.
West Playoffs: 1W Rose City Fends Off 8W Angel City, 194-147
RICHMOND, CA -- In the second quarterfinal game of the WFTDA West Region Playoffs -- and the second game of the day for 8th seeded Angel City, who had barely gotten past 9W Wasatch in the tournament opener -- top seed Rose City was widely expected to crush ACDG, but the ladies from Los Angeles refused to stick to the script.
West Playoffs: 10W Sacred City Whomps 7W Arizona, 242-126
RICHMOND, CA -- Friday’s second bout at Bay of Reckoning, the WFTDA Western Region Playoffs, featured a #7 vs. #10 matchup: the Arizona Roller Derby’s Tent City Terrors against the Sacred City Sacrificers of Sacramento.
West Playoffs: 4W Oly Rolls Over 5W Rocky Mountain, 157-92
RICHMOND, CA -- For the first time since the WFTDA split into 4 regions in 2009, the Western playoffs matchup between Oly and Rocky Mountain came before the final game. RMRG played a tough game, but was undone by Oly for the 3rd time in their four West playoffs meetings and lost 157-92.
West Playoffs: 8W Angel City Escapes 9W Wasatch, 172-162
RICHMOND, CA -- A spirited 9W Wasatch team gave slightly favored 8W Angel City a tough run in the opening game of the WFTDA West region playoffs, but fell just a few points and one timeout short of a potential win. Angel City overcame severe trouble with second-half jammer penalties to triumph by ten points, 172-162, and advance to the quarterfinals.
Preview: 2012 WFTDA West Region Playoffs
RICHMOND, CA -- This weekend the WFTDA roadshow moves on to California's Bay Area for Bay of Reckoning -- the 2012 West region playoffs. While it's almost possible to fill in two Championships teams in all the other regions before a whistle is blown, the West is wide open.

NC Championship: 1NC Windy City Unties 2NC Minnesota, 165-153
NIAGARA FALLS, NY -- In a very long-awaited rematch of a 155-155 tie game in June, the North Central's top two seeds, 1NC Windy City and 2NC Minnesota, met in what was also a repeat of the 2011 tournament final. While the score wasn't a tie this time, the game proved to be every bit as evenly matched as it was earlier in the year.
NC 3rd Place: 3NC Naptown Slams 5NC Ohio, 222-86
NIAGARA FALLS, NY -- One day after being completely dominated by Minnesota in a 283-86 semifinal, 3NC Naptown turned it completely around to snuff out 5NC Ohio's hopes of being a surprise qualifier for WFTDA Championships. Ohio scored almost all of their points either on power jam or by Naptown's choice in a 222-86 blowout that wasn't as close as the final score implied.
