Video-heavy linkfest this week:
With only 15 games this month involving a Power Ranked team, it's very much the calm before the storm in summer as we get ever closer to the beginning of tournament season.
Reposted with permission from Roller Derby Is Sport. RICHLAND HILLS, TX -- The Dallas Derby Devils utilized an offensive explosion by their speedy jammers in the second half to come from behind and defeat the Minnesota Rollergirls 113-73 Saturday night.
LAS VEGAS, NV -- In the third meeting between all-star women's squad Team Awesome and all-star men's squad Team SeXY, it was Team Awesome hanging on in an extremely closely contested -- and contentious -- game to escape with a 132-113 win, taking the lead in the year-old series with 2 wins and 1 loss.
CHICAGO, IL -- In what proved to be a brutal game for two teams vying for a place in DNN's unofficial top ten, #11 Windy City came out with a narrow 121-115 victory over #10 Boston, barely eking past a determined Massacre team.
LAS VEGAS, NV -- When Rollercon first started in 2005, there were no male flat-track teams at all, and hence no male players in the action. Every year since then, though, the integration of male players into the challenges and open scrimmages has moved forward as the national men's derby scene begins to take shape.
Today, the Women's Flat Track Derby Association released their second-quarter rankings -- easily the most important release of the year, as the top ten teams from each region are invited to participate in the four regional fall tournaments, with the top three finishers from each tournament advancing to the November 5-7 WFTDA 2010 Championships in Chicago, IL

BORDEAUX, FRANCE -- Video evidence (below) has finally surfaced to substantiate rumors of a burgeoning modern roller derby presence in France. On July 4, in what is believed to be the nation's first bout, Bordeaux Roller Derby defeated visiting Toulouse Roller Derby, 110-98.
HOLYOKE, MA – On Saturday, July 24th, the women of Pioneer Valley play host to Rideau Valley Roller Girls in what'll be the first ever international matchup for Pioneer Valley, while the men take on the New York Shock Exchange in a Men's Derby Coalition bout that has significant implications for the organization's season standings.
With the impending release of the WFTDA second-quarter rankings that'll determine which teams are invited to the regional tournaments, the tournament sites are starting to pop up: check out Thunda on the Tundra (North Central regionals in Green Bay, WI) and Derby In the Burbs (Eastern regionals in Whi
BALTIMORE, MD -- This Saturday sees what's likely to be a fascinating matchup between two teams nationally known for speed control and extreme positional play as Denver (#2 West WFTDA, #5 nationally via DNN) visits Charm City (#4 East WFTDA, #8 nationally via DNN).
MILWAUKEE, WI -- Milwaukee's Brewcity Bruisers host North Star's Supernovas in a matchup between two very closely matched North Central teams this Saturday.
HAGERSTOWN, MD -- The first season of the Men's Derby Coalition hits its midpoint this Saturday as the Harm City Homicide (Baltimore, MD) and the Connecticut Death Quads face off in a match that will leave one team still winless and facing a very hard road to a potential berth in the October championship matchup.
BOSTON, MA -- This Saturday night, DNN #10 Boston (officially #3 in the WFTDA Eastern Region) and DNN #13 Madison (#3 in the WFTDA North Central) meet in Boston's Shriner Auditorium in a rematch of one of the 2009 Nationals' most exciting bouts.

I have been amazed with the long and vigorous debate going on in this month's Power Rankings thread, so I decided to check our database to see which articles are the most commented of all time on DNN. This month's thread comes in at #8 (so far), but y'all sure do love to argue about rankings -- six out of the top ten are ranking threads, the past three months all included.
Well, hello. We had every intention of getting the Power Rankings out on the first of the month this time, but it turned out that agreement was considerably harder to come by than it has been previously this year.
The last weekend in June was a doozy for DNN -- we brought you whistle-to-whistle live coverage of a record-breaking 39 bouts in one weekend! To make sure you, your friends, and your fans were glued to DNN all weekend (as if you wouldn't have been anyway, right?), we launched the first-ever DNN Watch Party Photo/Video Contest. And holy sweet goddamn we got some great submissions. Now it's time to decide who wins this awesome prize package.
