World Cup Consolation: (10) Finland Survives (6) France, 115-84

TORONTO, ON -- In Saturday's final consolation bout, France matched up against Finland to determine which team would go on to play Sweden for 5th place on Sunday and which would play New Zealand for 7th place. Finland had a lead as large as 111-37 with 10 minutes to go, but France caught fire in the end, going on a 46-4 run to close the game.

World Cup 11th Place: (13) Scotland Foils (11) Brazil, 113-64

TORONTO, ON -- With Brazil still winless, Scotland's win over Argentina to consign the South American side to 13th place meant they came into the game as slight favourites despite being the lower-ranked team after the initial round. In what was a scrappy affair, Scotland ended up 113-64 winners to take 11th place.

World Cup 9th Place: (8) Germany Denies (7) Ireland, 116-60

TORONTO, ON -- 8 seed Germany faced off against 7 seed Ireland in a 40-minute consolation bout for 9th place. It was a very close one for most of the first half, but Germany busted a key sequence in the final few minutes of the half and then played a very intelligent prevent endgame to deny Ireland a chance to put together a comeback.

World Cup: (3) England Tramples (6) France, 383-14

TORONTO, ON -- After a shaky start versus Ireland, England ended up as the tournament's third seed following a convincing victory over Argentina and got a bye to the quarter-final stage to face France, who booked their place with a win on Friday when they beat Brazil for the second time in the day. England dominated this game from start to finish, winning by a very convincing 383-14.

World Cup: (2) Canada Squashes (10) Finland, 499-31

TORONTO, ON -- One bout after USA pulverized New Zealand by 462 points in their quarterfinal matchup, 2 seed Canada blasted 10 seed Finland by even more. Canada had 100 points in the first ten minutes, almost 300 points before halftime and fell a point short of 500 points total as they advanced to the semifinals with a 499-31 win.

World Cup: (1) USA Flattens (9) New Zealand, 470-8

TORONTO, ON -- As fate would have it, 9 seed New Zealand found themselves in a full-length rematch with the same Team USA that had beaten them 377-8 in a 40 minute bout in the round-robin portion of the Roller Derby World Cup.

World Cup Consolation: (8) Germany Stifles (13) Scotland, 104-41

TORONTO, ON -- With hopes of finding the form that had seen them get them past Finland in their opening game, Germany faced off against a resurgent Scottish team who had been invigorated by a technical upset against Argentina in their previous consolation round game.

World Cup Consolation: (7) Ireland Batters (11) Brazil, 213-57

TORONTO, ON -- The second 40-minute consolation game of the day saw Ireland take on a plucky Brazilian team that was hoping to build on the massive improvement they showed in their second game against France yesterday.

World Cup: (4) Australia Restrains (5) Sweden, 126-80

TORONTO, ON -- In the first quarterfinal game of the Roller Derby World Cup, 4 seed Australia worked a remarkably solid defensive game, only allowing 5 seed Sweden to score on two jams in the first half and then repeatedly using the clock to their advantage in the second to short-circuit an attempted comeback from the Swedes.

World Cup: (9) New Zealand Upsets (8) Germany, 143-127

TORONTO, ON -- The final first-round elimination game looked likely to be a very tight affair, with New Zealand and Germany both showing promise in the group rounds -- and it proved to be one of the tightest contest of the World Cup so far.

World Cup Consolation: (13) Scotland Outlasts (12) Argentina, 114-91

TORONTO, ON -- 12 seed Argentina and 13 seed Scotland came into this Saturday morning consolation game both looking for their first win of the weekend; in full-length games on Friday, Argentina had lost 191-65 to Sweden and Scotland had lost 251-48 to Australia.

World Cup: (6) France Knocks Out (11) Brazil, 212-138

TORONTO, ON -- When these two teams met earlier today, France ran out comfortable victors, winning 212-28. When things started going wrong from the very start for Brazil as Cash Pistache opened her account with a 19-0 powerjam, this one looked to be going much the same way as the first game.

TORONTO, ON -- In the closest seeding matchup of Friday's elimination-bout action, 7 seed Ireland (1-1 in round robin action with a win over Argentina and a loss to England) went up against 10 seed Finland (0-2 with a big loss to Australia and a close one to Germany).

World Cup: (4) Australia Bounces (13) Scotland, 251-48

TORONTO, ON -- The Scots came into their game against Australia without a win to their names, having suffered a crushing 435-1 defeat at the hands of Team USA earlier in the day, and a much closer game when fought to the bitter end in a tight game against New Zealand, 124-111.

World Cup: (5) Sweden Ejects (12) Argentina, 191-65

TORONTO, ON -- In the second elimination-round game at the Roller Derby World Cup, 5 seed Sweden (2-1 in round robin play with wins over France and Brazil and a loss to Canada) faced 12 seed Argentina (0-2 with losses to Ireland and England). The records ended up being a good predictor of the outcome, as Sweden led from the jump on the path to a big win, 191-65.

TORONTO, ON -- Coming into this second-to-last game of the round robin portion of the Roller Derby World Cup, both Sweden and France were 1-1, but Sweden finished second in Group A by besting France in a relatively low-scoring game, 110-46.

World Cup: USA Buries Scotland, 435-1

TORONTO, CA -- After pounding New Zealand 377-8 on Thursday, Team USA got even closer to a shutout win against Scotland today, steamrolling the overmatched Scots by a final of 435-1.

World Cup: Canada Crushes Brazil, 408-7

TORONTO, ON -- Canada rolled to a easy win to close out the round-robin portion of the Roller Derby World Cup, as their much less experienced opponent Brazil had the unfortunate scheduling of facing increasingly difficult teams and ended up winless in group play.

World Cup: England Slams Argentina, 273-31

TORONTO, ON -- Team England had come out of the gate a little slow against Ireland in Friday's opening game, but they had no such troubles against Argentina. A huge opening blast gave them a 77 point lead before Argentina even got on the board, and England won big, 273-31.

World Cup: France Whomps Brazil, 212-28

TORONTO, ON -- France's offense had been nearly completely shut down by Canada in the tournament's opening game, and they seemed to relish the chance to turn the tables in their next game against inexperienced Brazil. They got some help from some loose Brazil packs, and France was up by nearly 100 points at halftime on their way to a big win, 212-28.

World Cup: Germany Gets Past Finland, 104-80

TORONTO, ON -- Germany and Finland faced off both hungry for their first wins -- having both been beaten by Australia on day one. What followed was one of the tightest games of the 2011 World Cup so far, with the multiple lead changes and a dramatic last jam a stark contrast to much of the action on day one.

World Cup: Canada Smokes Sweden, 196-26

TORONTO, ON -- Host Team Canada laid another enormous blowout win on their group opposition on the first game of Friday, dropping a margin of 176 points against overmatched Sweden in a 196-26 final.

World Cup: England Bashes Ireland, 199-64

TORONTO, ON -- Two of the tournament's nearest neighbours started off the action on day two. Ireland were hoping that they could continue the way they started in their demolition of Argentina on day one, while England were looking to start their campaign with a good win to bolster their ranking hopes for the next round.
