How the banked track game is played
Also WORD Rules. The Derby Dolls intraleague rules have one major departure from WORD: skaters foul out at 6 box trips for the game, rather than 5 per half.
Oops Busta
Oops Busta, five per half was last years' rules. Now it's 7 trips and you're out. Which struck me that WFTDA lifted that from banked track.
Still 5 per half in the WORD
Still 5 per half in the WORD interleague BT rules.
I think 7 works pretty good. In a close game it hits a team where it hurts right at the end of the game. 6 seems a little low, with a third of each team missing by the end of the game. Even though it's for good reason.
Banked has borrowed from flat track for awhile now. It was bound to happen the other way around some day.
Way to go Cookies!
I was really hoping for the Cookies to win & they managed to pull off the three-peat. I have to say San Diego tried their best to not let it happen but it wasn't to be. However, the fun was tempered by this being the last Derby Doll game for Bonnie D. Stoir (going to Humboldt), Krissy Krash & PITA going to the OC Rollergirls next season, Maiven stepping down as TC captain next year (you can do it TTBB) plus a lot of other changes. I guess that is one reason I love the Deby Dolls: there are only 5 "home" teams to focus on. So you can have favorites & not-so-favorites. You kinda get to know the skaters even if you can just watch the games on the internet. Dolls (and DD volunteers) not in the bout get into the chatroom and talk with the fans. Basically it helps you to get a vested interest in the league which I love. Flat track may be where my league is but the Derby Dolls will always have a special place in my heart.
/If you didn't tear up a little at the end when they brought Bonnie out a cake, you aren't a derby fan of any kind
