boutcast correction

this is the first time the Mile High Club and the Texecutioners have ever faced off (the boutcast said it's the 3rd time)

my poor brain.

Sorry about the mixup. And, holy crap, even bigger congratulations to MHC!

hell ya Denver!

Wow! Awesome bout, couldn't wait to get home from my game to watch yours! Big congrats!

Writeup?

Is there going to be a full writeup on this one? ...because this was the most impressive bout I've ever attended, on multiple levels.

looks like a heated game

2:24. looks counter directional to me.

knee hit to the face

I'm sure this was not intentional, but on the highlight reel at about 1:16 the Denver jammer knees the texas girl in the face, breaks through pack and cheers. OUCH.. Texas looks for call but doesn't happen. I had to replay a couple times to see that it actually happened. I don't want to say at all that Denver jammer meant to do it because it does not look like that.

Thanks for putting this together

Thanks for putting this together! I am all about the slow-motion scenes.

Re: 1:16-1:17, I had to watch it about 30 times to be sure, but I think it was an accident.
Re: 2:25-2:29, somehow it was the Denver skater who ended up in the box.

hmm

Am I wrong, or didn't both players get ejected?

Interesting running of interference - or not

At 28:40 into the archived bout video, blink and you'll miss it, but watch the Texas player who starts chasing Denver's jammer. I think it's Teresa Rusk who sprints ahead of her, does a 180 and keeps skating counterclockwise, then slows down while leaning way forward.

[Edit:] I thought it was noteworthy, but upon further review, I'm told that it looks more like the jammer is already through, and Rusk is keeping somewhat to the side as she spins around to rejoin the pack, not block.

O-Town vs. Bruising Altitude video

I've added the video archive of Texas @ Denver in the main pane above. Here's the undercard:

Good showing by O-Town

Although it was a rout, I was impressed with O-Town. They've got a great attitude and I'm glad they came. They stayed focused on the game and were clearly having fun. Skull Candi stood out as a jammer, making the most of the rare opportunities she got against the Bruising Altitude's fairly consistent front-of-the-pack control. In the first half, I also saw more than a couple times where she and at least one other teammate were doing some very effective blocking of the "say hello to my ass" variety (sorry, I don't know what it's really called). And toward the end, O-Town was getting some hard-earned points on the board. It'll be interesting to see what happens with them next season. They're definitely on their way up.

And thank you, DNN, for providing the video coverage with the quality, knowledgeable commentary for both bouts. I basically make minimum wage, but I just donated $10 to the cause, because I know there are going to be more bouts like this that I will want to see streaming and archived coverage of.

"Say hello to my ass"

The usual term is "booty blocking", though I like to call it "the old butt-in-the-gut." The "polite company" version is "positional blocking."

And I talked to some of the O-Town skaters at the afterparty, and they had an awesome attitude about the whole thing; I reassured them that DRD's Mile High Club had to endure similar defeats before they could find their own way.

Jerry Seltzer feature & interview

At halftime of the first bout, Chuck Morris of AEG Live paid tribute to Jerry Seltzer with this video:

And Jerry spent a few minutes talking with Jim Koolaid Jones between the night's two bouts:

P.S. Denver..

Denver, you look and skate like a bunch of classy gals, sorry to call anyone out. I remember when Philly played Gotham at regionals 2008, I was jamming and Kandy Kakes was the last opposing blocker in the pack. I was trying to juke around her, but instead stuck my knee in her butt. She fell and I was sent to the box.. I didn't realize I did it till I watched the video later and then felt horrible.

She is on her outer edge of her two wheels when this happens. Check it out. What balance!

whoa!

Great balance... It looks like she trying to stay in bounds, by knees texas in face.. lol
