WFTDA Nationals: The Opening Bouts
After a year of waiting, it's all come down to this -- the 8 survivors of the Regional tournaments converge on Portland, Oregon this weekend for a three-day single-elimination tournament to prove who's the best in the nation. Full rosters and game previews for Texas vs. Carolina, Duke City vs. Gotham, Rat City vs. Windy City and Bay Area vs. Philly.
Western Regional Semifinal: Texas Defeats Rat City, 108-97
In the third chapter of the ongoing tournament saga between Texas and Rat City, Texas finally got revenge for their narrow losses in the 2007 regional and national quarterfinals, defeating the Seattle crew in an intense, back-and-forth crowd-pleaser that came down to the last jam.

I've already written about the fantastic job Houston Roller Derby did hosting this year's WFTDA West Regional Tournament, particularly in the immediate wake of Hurricane Ike. Above and beyond that, though, this was a really damned good weekend of derby. Here's my takeaway:
