I've already written about the fantastic job Houston Roller Derby did hosting this year's WFTDA West Regional Tournament, particularly in the immediate wake of Hurricane Ike. Above and beyond that, though, this was a really damned good weekend of derby. Here's my takeaway:

Western Regionals: (9w) Duke City over (8w) Pikes Peak, 138-99
9th seed Duke City was the only entrant to score an seeding upset in the first round of the Western Regionals, manhandling 8 seed Pikes Peak in the first half and then holding off a furious Pikes comeback to win the opening bout of the tournament, 138-99.

Somewhat lost in the shuffle of last weekend's Battle on the Bank was #27 Pikes Peak Derby Dames' impressive 94 - 81 upset of #6 Tucson Roller Derby on Saturday.

Sacred City Derby Girls of the Sacramento area in California will have their first WFTDA sanctioned bout Saturday February 16th against the Pikes Peak Derby Dames of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The game will be held at Roller King, 889 Riverside Ave. Roseville, CA.
