The New Jersey Dirty Dames Hub City Hellrazors open their 2008 season in Kendall Park, NJ this Sunday in a rematch of their closest matchup of last year, against River City out of Richmond, VA. It was not until the last jam that the score was settled 166 to 160 in favor of the Dirty Dames last July. However, the team rosters that will face off on the track tomorrow may only recognize half the faces of their foes
River City, recently coming off a loss to red hot Dominion 159-26 in March, are without two of their high scoring jammers, Nitrous Oxide and Pistol in Pantyhose, from last year’s game. Granted, point machine Shake ‘n’ Baker remains rostered and ready to jam up a storm.
The Hellrazors last bout ended their season on a high note as they defeated their cross state rivals, the Garden State Rollergirls, for the Jersey Cup in November. Five months later the team is decidedly different. Pivot Bone Crawford, Jammer Big Bad Wolfe, and blockers such as Kap’n Krush, Infrared Red, Ricochet Rabbit, and Shermaine Tank, have all bounced from the league while hard hitting Elle Toro is on injury reserve, so Garden State skaters Jenna Von Fury, Steel Magnolia, and GSR captain Lady Vengeance will be putting aside any interstate feud to suit up as Hellrazors for a day to fill in the ranks. The one-two punch of the A-Bomb and Carmen Monoxide of the Hellrazors’ jamming rotation remains intact.
During the off-season, Raven Darkhold of River City focused on building strong core muscles and actively scrimmaging the members of their intraleague teams, the Flaming Hips and the Tiger Beatdowns!, as well as scrimmaging against other teams. Carmen Monoxide trained her Hellrazors hard by adding an extra endurance practice night. She expects late 2007 Hellrazors addition, Jheri Kill, to unleash a powerful new force of speed and hard hitting this game.

A.D. Sixer // Booty Queen // Carebear Scare // Coco Carnage // Devil Bitch // Maliciously Delicious // Paris Kills // Ram Jam Betty // Raven Darkhold // Shake ‘n’ Baker // Sue-age Spill // Sway // Terminal Velocity

This Friday in Newark, NJ, the Jersey City Bridge and Pummel will have something to prove. The Northern Nightmares trounced them twice last year, 109 to 40 in May and 107 to 58 in September. Now, at the Garden State Roller Girls 2008 Season Opener this Friday (4/11/08) at Newark’s Branch Brook Park Skating Center, Jersey City aspires to shed the losing streak and start the year like champs.
Filled with positivity and a smile that reveals a warm satisfaction with her new, improved team, Demonica Mars says, “Bridge and Pummel is looking very strong this year.” That being said everybody knows that jammer Jenna Von Fury, of the Northern Nightmares, will slice up Jersey City defense and smiles any chance she gets. However, rumors abound concerning a possible injury. B&P veterans Lady Vengeance and Jenna Jammitin, having proven their blocking mettle at 2007 Jersey Cup Championships, will surely capitalize on any chinks in the Nightmares’ armor.
Indeed, the Nightmares will be skating down two of their finest players, Bell N. Somebashin’ and Betty Brawl, who remain with the league but are not rostered this year. “I think losing them is going to make this game a lot harder,” laments Astra Zombie, “although our rookie skaters skate as well as the veterans on our team.” Expect rookie Lixxie Stix to fill in the absence of Belle and Betty in the Nightmares’ jammer rotation.
Garden State kept active during its intraleague offseason, scrimmaging the Morristown Madams and recently playing a doubleheader against Lehigh Valley. This doubleheader featured GSR’s travel team, the Ironbound Maidens, and a rookie team, the Brick City Brawlers. The Leigh Valley Hissy Fits beat the Ironbound Maidens 122 to 47 and the Leigh Valley Special Vixens Unit beat the Brick City Brawlers 68 to 65. These GSR teams are not to be confused with, by eerie coincidence, two similarly named teams of the Nacogdoches, TX Rollergirls, the Brick Street Brawlers and Iron Maidens.

The New Jersey Dirty Dames Hub City Hellrazors drank champagne from the Jersey Cup Championship Trophy after rolling over the Garden State Rollergirls Iron Bound Maidens 118 to 69. The Maidens fought a hard battle against their archenemies but penalty trouble would stymie their attempts to retake an early lead and doom a late game comeback.
Jenna Von Fury (GSR) and A-Bomb (NJDD), both co-captains and star jammers, took the starting position for Jam 1. The Jersey crowd, split cheering for each team, fell hushed in suspense. After the whistle, A-Bomb sprinted through the pack to pick up lead but got trapped by a wall of Garden State Blockers. Von Fury, blocked by pivot Fender SmackHerFaster (NJDD), seized an opportunity to escape and smashed through the pack for 4 points. A-Bomb, still unable to breakaway from the re-engaging pack, eventually called it off but not before Von Fury had scored another 3 points to win the jam 7-4.
Garden State held its lead after Bam Bam Bone-z (GSR) and Carmen Monoxide (NJDD) tied a fiercely fought 4-4 jam. A-bomb returned to the line in Jam 3 to take on GSR Captain Lady Vengeance. Though Vengeance was hot on her heels, A-Bomb raced through for the lead and a 4-0 triumph.
Vengeance’s penalties caught up with her and she was forced to start the next jam in the box. Carmen, unopposed, was confronted with a relentless Garden State pack, which held her until Slam N Legs (GSR) was called out for a major blocking out of play (past 20 feet) penalty. Carmen capitalized on the power play 4-0. The intensity skyrocketed in the next jam as the Dirty Dames and Garden State traded control of the front of the pack with malicious walls of blockers throwing merciless hits. NJDD Blocker Elle Toro managed a massive takeout of jammer Betty Brawl (GSR) to give A-Bomb a 4-1 victory.
Von Fury smoked Big Bad Wolfe (NJDD) off the line as Jam 6 started. Though Wolfe gained ground, Lady Vengeance and Kelly Kut Throat (GSR) killed her chances of ever breaking out of the pack. Von Fury’s 7-0 run almost closed the gap but Garden State still trailed, 18-20.

Double your rivalry with this highly anticipated bout: not only do the New Jersey Dirty Dames and Garden State Rollergirls lay claim to the same state in their names, they also started out as a single league before going their separate ways in the spring of 2006. On Sunday night, they’ll meet on the rink for the first time as opponents, ending their first full seasons by battling it out for the Jersey Cup Championship Trophy. The Garden State Rollergirls of Northern New Jersey will be traveling south down I-95 to meet their foes at Kendall Park Skate Center in central Jersey NJDD turf.
The Dirty Dames’ travel team, the Hub City Hellrazors, has played a significant amount of interleague games in 2007, amassing a 3-7 record. Garden State’s travel team, the Iron Bound Maidens, is 0-3 with two stiff losses to the Coal City Rollers (97-62 and 131-83) and one to the Wilmington Ruff Rollers (103-62). Garden State has had a 3 game intraleague season in contrast to NJDD, which has not held any public intraleague bouts. The Hellrazors are coming off a substantial, but experience-building, loss to the Manhattan Mayhem of GGRD just this past weekend while the Maidens should be well rested and ravenous for their first win. The stage is set for chapter one of what promises to be the most heated rivalry in New Jersey.
UPDATE: The Hub City Hellrazors rule the state this year, defeating Garden State 118 to 69.
