Love this.

Two of the things I'll miss most about Las Vegas is having these two cool people around. Frank should have hit the IP karaoke bar during RollerCon. I'm told he does a mean Sinatra.

I suspect Frank's "I was good" joke might have a bit of a dual-meaning.

Home teams in those days were very different from today's intraleague "home teams." The home team was the team from the city/country that was the home market. The San Francisco Bay Bombers, the L.A. T-Birds, the Canadian All-Stars/Team Canada (Frank skated for the latter two, at least), the Australia Kangaroos (Frank trained them), and the Philadelphia Warriors were some of the home teams.

They were the heroic teams the fans were expected to cheer for. The "travel teams" in those days were the ones who the fans would generally disliked and jeered, because they came from somewhere else. More recently, the pro leagues have been entirely based in places like San Francisco and L.A./San Diego, with the "red shirt" teams only being nominally located elsewhere. As different as it is/was, it's got some things in common with today's derby.

Having gotten to know him a bit, I'd say Frank's far past "good," any way you define it.

-Barely even speaking for myself...

Far past good

Oh yes, Mr. Macedo was far past good for many many years. He also spent time with the NY Chiefs and the Jolters, and the Eastern Express. He skated in just about every big arena on the planet in his day.

Keep in mind that with Derby's first boom (the initial TV years of the late 40s), All the teams were based in NY area and mostly named for boroughs. Ny Chiefs, Brooklyn Red Devils, Jersey Jolters and the Philadelphia Panthers. I remember the Jets as well but do not recall where they were based. Shame they had the Jets and not the Sharks.

I believe the Jets ...

Passing the information on a new generation

Good luck to all the Roller Gals to look learn & listen, to what you all have been devoloping for a wonderful furture. Its like a baby being born it takes time to grow & learn on the way .
Look back at the real past of the orginal roller derby,
Best of luck, skate safe
Love Loretta

Roller girls jamming

Good Job Loretta.
The LEAD JAMMER "rule" is the one that bothers me the most in Roller Girls. I think allowing the jammers to block and take the LEAD position makes the bout MUCH more logical and exciting.

Amen Loretta

So true Loretta, so so true. Or just the ability to catch up and out run a jammer while that jammer has to get to the pack AND consider blocking out the pursuing jammer or she may even decide to cut it off. So much more to the game with that.

Alas, I doubt there will be WFTDA change on that anytime soon, if ever. I am still waiting for an explanation on how they developed it the way they did and have not really gotten an answer for it yet.

Roller Derby

Good luck in all games skated in the name of Roller Derby
