Archived Video Added to (some) Boutcasts

DNN cares about you. Yes, you!

A lot of you have been asking why the archived boutcasts don't include video from the bout that is, y'know, nominally archived; the short answer is that the "video" window on boutcast pages actually links to the current content on the DNN Justin.tv channel, which is either what is being broadcasted at the time, or what is set as the default playlist in the event that we're not currently on air. In the interest of making it easier for y'all to access all information on a bout from the same page, we're going back and adding the Justin.tv clips from bouts as comments on the boutcasts themselves.

This isn't super-pretty at the moment, and is a bit of a time-consuming process. We won't be able to do this for all bouts that we ever had video from, partially because a lot of our bouts from the Ustream days didn't automatically archive, and because making clips out from our Justin.tv is a time-consuming process of its own. In the near future, we expect to be able to drop a full bout into the currently existing video window on boutcast pages rather than the workaround of sticking it in the comments; for now, though, we figured that having video easily accessible when possible was better than waiting for an ideal solution.

Right now, you can go to the following boutcasts from Eastern Regionals to see full video from all advancement rounds embedded on DNN:

Championship: Philly 90, Gotham 89

Third place bout: Boston vs. Charm City

Men's expo: Death Shock vs. Dirty Homicide

Semifinal: Gotham def. Boston

Semifinal: Philly vs. Charm City

Quarterfinal: Boston vs. Carolina

Quarterfinal: Philly vs. Steel City

Quarterfinal: Gotham vs. Providence

Quarterfinal: Charm City vs. DC

Opening Round: Steel City vs. Dominion

Opening Round: DC vs. Connecticut

For the consolation round bouts, or for a higher-resolution video, or if you just want to thank the Carolina Rollergirls for putting on such a totally sweet tournament and allowing us to stream it live, head on over to the Carolina Rollergirls website to purchase bout DVDs from the weekend -- just $10 each!

Stay tuned for a similar treatment for the South Central tournament, coming up soon.

Thank you!

This is really and truly awesome news for those of us living in Upside Down Land, where an awful lot of tournament bouts were happening at 3am local time.

And it will also save me from future acts of job-endangerment like hanging up on my boss when she phoned at 10am Monday morning during the Charm/Boston game, wondering why I wasn't at work ('I'm not meant to be at work') and could I come in ('No way, I am watching some REALLY GOOD roller derby').

So big thanks, DNN folks!

Thanks for doing this! I'm

Thanks for doing this!

I'm wondering if there has been any discussion regarding moving the price point on a complete set of regionals DVDs...i know the North Central set was going for $100, which is quite a bit more than i would like to spend ((and buying a single bout seems underwhelming to me)). In my ((admittedly fact-less)) brain, i'd like to see perhaps two bouts to a DVD, and a complete set ((comprised of half as many discs)) selling for $50, or maybe $60. I really think that more than double the potential consumers would pull the trigger on a 50 or 60 dollar 6-dvd set than would pop for a 100 dollar 12-dvd set. I'd personally like to own a library of all tournament games, ever, but right now i am priced out of the ballgame.

Video for Derby on the Rocks

I know this is a lot of work, I'm just curious if you have an idea when the video from this weekends tournament will be up?

justin tv archives

My kudos to the DNN staff for not only going to each event for the past four straight weekends, but doing all the boutcasting, interviewing, running the video production, maintaining/updating the web-site, attending after-parties, etc. I'm sure that they are all working as hard as they can to keep us in the loop. However, we can help ourselves here a little.
Go to the Justin.tv website, do a search for Derby News Network, and click on the Archives link below the video screen. There you can choose a date you want to watch from the little bouncy choose a time button and you can tune into the boutcast at any specific point on the day in question.
I use the archived text-cast to locate the specific time in the bout I want to see, and Wa-lah! Roller Derby!
Just make sure you have the lastest version of Adobe Flash Player.

All traces of DNN have

All traces of DNN have suddenly disappeared from justin.tv. What's worse is that said traces chose to disappear WHILE I WAS WATCHING ROCKY MOUNTAIN v. DENVER with FIVE MINUTES LEFT IN THE BOUT! Oy vey!

*headscratch*

Cannot replicate the problem, looks to me like it's all there? It may be that they had a quick bit of archive system maintenance to do or something?

Agreed, i can no longer

Agreed, i can no longer reproduce the bug. For a while yesterday afternoon, though, searches for "derby news network" yielded no results and, backing up thru my browser window, all old clips i tried to play gave the "we musta lost that one" message. Now i can go indulge myself in the smooth sounds of Hurt and Dumptruck for five more minutes.
