Youtube: Windy City Rollers & Drew Barrymore Singing at Wrigley Field
WCR skater and DNN microphone checka Val Capone holds the mic up for Drew Barrymore during the seventh-inning stretch here at last night's Chicago Cubs / Milwaukee Brewers game as they sing "Take Me Out To the Ball Game," which is ironic on at least two different levels. From left to right, the Windy City crew was Athena DeCrime, Julia Rosenwinkel, Val Capone, Slammah Montana, Donna Party, Rose Feratu, and Ruth Enasia (not all of whom are visible for the whole thing.)
Be sure to listen to the sportscaster's commentary afterwards for a useful reminder about how much the average sports fan knows about roller derby (hint: not much).
(By the by, the Cubs won 13-7, no doubt spurred to increased offensive output by fear of Val after her vaguely threatening demand for more runs at the end of the song.)

they have roller derby in Austin?
AHAHAHAHA
HEY!
What's with that crowded booth comment? Hahaha
I think it was an attempt at a "fat" comment.
But that's even more ridiculous given the shots of certain fans singing along.
Those guys are idiots. If there's someone or something special happening at a game you're calling, take a minute and do a Google search so you don't come off like a tool.
Baseball Commentary
Baseball commentary is consistently awful. I don't know how anyone watches that sport on television. Snooze-fest!
I'm going to disagree,
I'm going to disagree, baseball commentary on the radio is a necessary part of summer ((e.g., i do not put the screen door on at my house unless there is a Brewers game on the radio)). Maybe i'm just spoiled as a Brewers fan because i get to hear Bob Uecker six days a week ((yes, Val, the ONLY way in which i am spoiled as a Brewers fan, har de freakin har)). These guys are on the radio for three hours a crack, 162 days a year, so you can really ingest a lot about announcer/audience rapport if you follow a team somewhat regularly..
Baseball is not to be watched on TV until the playoffs, but the playoffs should be followed semi-religiously, IMO, on the off-chance that something happens.
agreed
agreed, it just takes a few seconds to look something up these days and they looked like major tools.
But, to be fair, i don't
But, to be fair, i don't google the cub scout pack who brings out the flag during the national anthem at the bouts i announce, so i guess it's all about the perception of relative importance or something.
forget about drew!
MORE VAL CAPONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nice.
nice.

Where was Val Capone at the Packer vs Bears game on Sunday!?! They could have used some of her offensive output as well. ;)
Madd Mallett
Brewcity Bruiser
sigh
the announcers ineptitude was worthy of a face palm. *SMACK*
No doubt
I was absolutely shocked at their lack of knowledge. You would have thought that SOMEONE would have given them at least a one sheet on what was going on.
I <3 Val Capone
I <3 Val Capone. That is all.
And who doesn't?
She's 100% awesome in every way!
no kidding...
val = rad.
and wcr ladies getting to sing at the baseball game is pretty rad too. :) too bad the announcers are total toolboxes.
Funny, I too love of the Val Capone
But I have a shirt that claims the opposite
This is way too awesome.
Thank you.
Far out.
Who were those F'N announcers?
F'n DBs! and stupid tools.... they should be writing an apology letter at minimum.
Wolfie says.....
Roller derby is far more exciting than baseball, anyway!
It's too bad the interview with Drew wasn't on this video
She did a truly fantastic job describing the resurgence of roller derby. Drew Barrymore is awesome.

original broadcast
On what channel was this originally broadcast?
The best night of my life...
...was originally broadcast on Comcast Sports Net.
I can't even describe to you all the pure bliss that was experienced that night. And not just because that's Ellen Page's name in Whip It.
Seriously, best night ever. I've been on cloud 9(million) ever since. See some of ya'll at the Roy this weekend.
Oh and for all you Facebookers out there, ESPN radio also had some lovely things to say about us(assuming me) being scary and something about big arms or whatever. This, my friends, is why I am allergic Facebook.
Thanks to the Roller Derby community for all the support and wonderful comments about a night I will NEVER forget.

I grabbed that video off my TiVo. Was originally just going to go for the singing bit (they cut off the beginning - not me), but decided to include the commentary to keep the odd context they decided to create.
My Gal Val
Val, sooooo glad you had a good time -- it looked VERY fun! Out of that event came one of my favorite pics of you -- http://www.ctv.ca/gallery/html/tiff_whipit_rollerderby_090913/photo_0.html (see Photo #5; which is the sixth photo in)
Classic!!!! Mwah, toots!
Val rocks
Val Capone is the BEST EVER!
