While the fan-friendliness of the Regionals tournament structure will probably continue to be debated, there's no doubt that it did wildly succeed in one intended way -- with all participating teams playing either three or four bouts over the course of the weekends, it's a heck of a lot easier to compare teams now for accurate rankings.

We get letters
We've received so many thanks from the DNN audience for our coverage of the WFTDA tournaments, but here was one of our favorites so far, from B-17 of the Nickel City Knockouts local team in Buffalo's Queen City league.
November 8 Scrimmage-a-Thon in Atlanta
The ladies from the Atlanta Roller Girls are throwing an all-day scrimmage-a-thon in a couple of weeks, which will be culminating with a sanctioned WFTDA bout between Atlanta and Nashville. If you're within a reasonable distance, or you've got some frequent-flier miles burning a hole in your pocket, you could do a lot worse than showing up for the fun.
KCRW's Bruz-Her On MSN's Front Page
It is DNN's pleasure to inform you that the Captain of the Universe, Kansas City's Bruz-Her, is currently featured right dead center on the MSN network's front page as the prime example of their current series in Profiles in Fearlessness. Note that Bruz-Her is officially ranked as more fearless than Terrell Owens, Girl Talk and ... Ted Nugent.
Derby News Network... in the news!
As we get ready to kick off our coverage of Eastern Regionals, here is a very, very nice article about DNN from The Daily Page, the online side of Madison's Isthmus city paper. Big thanks to writer
Naptown Rollergirls / Circle City Socialites on indy.com
Here's a better-than-average mainstream-media article that actually does some investigative reporting, covering the birth process of a second, non-WFTDA aspirational league in Indianapolis. Worth a read (although, as is so often the case, the rules "crash course" is nearly comically inaccurate.)
Derby Is On The March!
Just a pretty quick note here, but I have to admit to a smile of satisfaction when I saw this article get picked up on my Google news feed.
It may not seem like much, but it wasn't all that long ago that derby fans and players daydreamed of a day where we might read a derby event framed and presented in such a way in the news instead of the years of cookie-cutter lifestyle pieces we've been getting so far. It's happening more and more often these days ... and we're just getting started.
In your face, Mike Seate!
Men's Derby in Baltimore Sun today
Straight from the shameless self-promotion department ... the Baltimore Sun runs a quite nice article today about my men's team, the Harm City Homicide, in the run-up to our Historic Bout With The New York Shock Exchange in Kendall Park this weekend (more on that later.)
Uniwatch on Roller Derby Uniforms
Hambone from Gotham Girls draws our attention to a blog I'd never heard of before called Uniwatch -- which is a sports blog specifically about sports attire (sample post opening line: "Florida State was eliminated from the College World Series on Monday night, robbing a national television audience of the chance to see an all-yellow uniform.") It's funny and well-written stuff, but honestly, I didn't know blogs *got* that nichey.
