Just under three years ago, the already-surging sport of modern roller derby experienced a period of explosive growth, going from under 50 to over 150 leagues and more than doubling the number of registered skaters in the space of about six months. This burst coincided with the airing of A&E's short-lived Rollergirls series, and while there's probably never been a study, around about the 50th time you hear a skater tell you that she caught an episode of the show and that's what prompted her to either:

We have seven months. Are we ready?
Yes, I did, and she said yes
My honey doesn't particularly enjoy the spotlight, so naturally I had to find the biggest one available to me to pop the question:

Justice refs his 100th bout
DNN's founder, co-managing editor and chief recapper Justice Feelgood Marshall wasn't always a slave to the keyboard -- in fact, many veteran rollergirls still know him best for his work in stripes (and a skirt). I've already written about the fantastic job Houston Roller Derby did hosting this year's WFTDA West Regional Tournament, particularly in the immediate wake of Hurricane Ike. Above and beyond that, though, this was a really damned good weekend of derby. Here's my takeaway:
DNN travel day
Just a quick note -- the DNN crew is all in travel mode right now, so you may not see much from DNN today, but rest assured we have *a lot* more Battle Royale content on the way, in addition to Derby in Dairyland previews and full coverage this weekend. Check back!
