Hey all! As the the DNN community has grown and become more involved, we've been seeing some very long discussion threads lately. Which is friggin' awesome, by the way! But it makes keeping up with comments tough sometimes. The answer: comment sorting!
I've enable a new feature on DNN that allows you some control over the way you view the comment threads. Look for the controls at the very top of each thread. The system will remember your settings and apply them to all comment threads. Enjoy! -G
Very nice!
Diggin the comment feature. Any talk of installing a forum on DNN?

We've talked about it, and it still might happen someday, but for now I tend to think of the entire DNN site as a forum. The articles are the topics and the comment threads are the discussion. I would hate to distract from that.
Skatelog Forum
Why couldn't DNN get with Skatelog and their already Roller Derby Forum and promote that. A few of us are there. just and idea

What about the bouts and events that don't get "previews" or write-ups? There's nowhere to discuss these events.

Forum: check back in December
Adding a forum has been on our feature roadmap for some time now, scheduled for "whenever it's time." We've seen site after site put up a forum too early, before there was a critical mass built to support ongoing conversations, only to flame out in a couple weeks. We didn't want to jump the gun and launch another fizzle.
The popularity of the comment threads is a pretty good indicator that the site could support a forum now, which leads to another challenge -- moderation. We've been working pretty hard to ensure that DNN is, on the whole, a place for vigorous but *constructive* discussion. A forum is just a total drama magnet, so to do it the way we want to, we're going to have to recruit some moderator help.
Between now and Nationals, we're just too plain busy to really tackle this, but after that's over and we've recovered, maybe that'll be about the right time. I guess if you have some experience moderating forums and keeping 'em friendly, we wouldn't mind hearing from you before then, just keep in mind that we may not be terribly responsive on this topic for a few more weeks.
All that said, we couldn't be happier about how well received the comment feature has been, and about the overall quality of discussions here! All of you make us really happy and proud to spend our time this way. Thanks for being awesome.
I second that!
A DNN message forum would rock! You can have sub forums for each region, forums for tournaments, sponsor forums where they can post sales and maybe organize group purchases, etc the possibilities are exciting :o)
One thing that might be nice with the thread sorting
I have no idea how much code this would force you to write, though it might be a trifle.
When I click down to a comment, the others aren't available on that screen, so I wind up clicking the back button and on to the next post. Depending on people's browser settings, that could result in a bunch more traffic.

If I click on a comment (from the front page) it should direct me to the comment, not just to the thread where I have to search through eleventybillion other commetns to find the latest. Please?

Change your settings
to 300 comments per page. Default is 150.
At least until the really popular threads get over 300 comments, it'll go to the correct comment.

This is what I did, too.
This is what I did, too. But yeah, I find the pagination of comments screwing up the jump really annoying. Working on a solution. Comment volume on DNN has skyrocketed, so we're dealing with the consequences. But this is such a great problem to have!
