Hi folks! Most regular readers have probably noticed a new item on the main menu: Boutcasts. This marks the official launch of the Leadjammer Boutcast service that many of you have enjoyed in the past.
The Leadjammer boutcast service started back in August 2007 when I jumped in my car, drove to Columbus, OH, and stayed up all night in my hotel writing a javascript application (on the ExtJS library) that would provide a simulated "push" system. I had to do it that way because I knew that you derby freaks would melt my web server hitting "refresh" every 10 seconds. That's what happened to TRD's server during the 2007 Dust Devil. The system *had* to auto-update. It ended up working really well and I got a ton of great feedback. The Texas Rollergirls invited me to come down and do the same for the Championship tournament and I jumped at the chance.
A few months later, when I started discussing merging DNN and Leadjammer with Justice, the question came up, what do we do with the Leadjammer "brand"? The site had been popular for over 2 years at that point...we just couldn't let it go away. Hurt suggested that we continue to do the liveblogging whenever possible and use the Leadjammer name for that. The idea stuck and the DNN Leadjammer Boutcast was re-born.
Many of you tuned in a couple weeks ago for our maiden voyage, boutcasting "live" from Battle on the Bank. I put live in quotes because none of us were actually there! Hurt transcribed the entire thing with help from correspondents on the scene, calling and texting info about the action. It went off pretty well! This coming weekend, you'll see the true potential of the boutcast service as we bring you the action live (for real this time) from Madison and KC. Tune in and enjoy the bouts!
Leadjammer Boutcasts - It ain't at all like being there!
It ain't at all like being there...
but it's sure as hell better than nothing! I'm stoked about this weekends bout-feeds!
Very very cool. I commend
Very very cool. I commend you!! Have you got a schedule of bouts worked out or are you still "lining things up"?
Sponsors make boutcasts possible
Totally depends upon the level of travel sponsorships we're able to line up! We're all leveraged pretty far into derby debt, so travel expenses have become a factor, but we're definitely game to cover any top 20 matchups where we can get adequate travel assistance (in exchange for which we will offer our profuse thanks and substantial exposure on DNN!).
