COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – On Saturday, August 25, Team Bionic defeated the Midwest super team, Team MASTR by 52 points in a banked track bout on their home turf in Colorado Springs. The final score was 140 to 88, in favor of Team Bionic. Team Bionic remains undefeated with a 4-0 record.
Team MASTR was anticipated to be a tough competitor for Team Bionic, potentially threatening their winning streak. They had a powerful roster including many skilled skaters either from or with ties to the Midwest.
Team Bionic, under guidance of coaches DeRanged and Helen Wheels, came out strong at the very beginning, fielding Stella Italiana who put up the first 10 points of the game. Team MASTR did not allow them to run up the score easily. After the fifth jam, MASTR reclaimed the lead by two points. They kept the lead for another five jams as Bionic was not able to score any points. Atomatrix, who had been exclusively blocking until then, restarted Bionic’s scoring streak.
The scoring streak did not last very long. MASTR blockers successfully contained Bionic’s jammers. However, they were not able to put up enough points to narrow the gap. By the end of the first half, the score was 55 to 40, in favor of Team Bionic.
At the beginning of the third quarter, Team MASTR began catching up in points. MASTR jammers Wild Cherri, Sweet Mary Pain and T-Pain were the main contributor’s to MASTR’s point-earnings. Early in the third quarter, only four points separated the two teams until Bionic blockers shut down MASTR jammers for five jams in a row.
The fourth quarter began with Bionic in the lead by 27 points. MASTR still had opportunities to close the gap. However, MASTR was unable to put up any points for the next six jams. Bionic fielded power jammers Atomatrix, Stella Italiana and Joy Collision. In the end, Bionic dominated the scoreboard, securing another win.
Noticeable skaters on the track were Stella Italiana, overall lead scorer of the game with 57 points, Wild Cherri, just behind Stella Italiana with 37 overall points, and Atomatrix with six major penalties, one trip shy of fouling out. Only having jammed six times throughout the game, Atomatrix mainly racked up major penalties in her blocker role. In contrast, Krissy Krash, notorious for fouling out of games, only had three minors after the first half. She eventually accumulated four major penalty points, which is still three shy of fouling out.
Team MASTR was relatively clean with five of the 14 with zero penalties. Only two of their skaters, Trauma and Bruz-Her with three major penalties, accumulated more than two majors.
