(24) Ohio Defeats Chicago Outfit, 164-97

COLUMBUS, OH – Fans of the Ohio Rollergirls have enjoyed a storybook season as their hometown OHRG team (#24 DNN, 5NC WFTDA) had posted a 19-1 mark headed into a North Central preview bout against the Chicago Outfit Syndicate (8NC WFTDA). Within that 19-1 record was a 7–0 home record.  In fact, the Ohio Rollergirls had not lost in front of their hometown fans since June of 2010 against Brew City.  But one team OHRG had never beaten was The Chicago Outfit.  These two teams last matched up in May 2011 when The Outfit won by 79 points, 147-68.  But on Saturday, August 18, Ohio would add their 20th win of the year and their first victory over the Syndicate skaters from Chicago by a score of 164-97.

The plotline of the contest was cast early as Outfit jammer Queefer Sutherland finished the first jam of the bout in the penalty box.  This allowed Pippi RipYourStockings to begin the evening’s second jam all alone and she went out and put up 4 grand slams for 20 points.  Pippi’s jam would push Ohio out to an early 25-0 lead.

The pattern held throughout the first half. Syndicate skaters wearing the star got sent to jammer jail seven times in the first half, which allowed OHRG jammers, Kitty Liquorbottom, The Smacktivist, Pippi and Hellion BOI to all post double-digit jams.

But Outfit jammers were not scoring when they were out on the track either; the Ohio defensive unit of Phoenix Bunz, Amy Spears, Loraine Acid, Bratislava Bruiser, Kill Basa and Paige Bleed held The Syndicate scoreless in 12 of the 17 first half jams. Chicago managed only one double digit jam on their way to their lowest-scoring first half of the 2012 season as they only picked up 23 points. Ohio broke the century mark before halftime and after 30 minutes of play led by 81 points 104-23.

Hellion BOI began the second half with a 12 point jam; three jams into the second half, Ohio held its largest lead of the night at 120-26.

Then Outfit jammers Lola Blow and Queefer Sutherland began to find some holes in the Ohio pack.  The two Syndicate veterans, while held in check in the first half, scored 12 out of 14 times they jammed in the second half. The Outfit won the second half 74 to 60 but Ohio led throughout, as the strong Ohio first half was too much for The Syndicate to overcome.

Ohio’s 20th victory of the year featured balanced scoring by the OHRG jammer rotation as Hellion BOI scored 48 points and Kitty Liquorbottom added another 40.  Pippi RipYourStockings jammed only twice but still scored 35 points; talented OHRG rookie, The Smacktivist posted 33. Chicago was led by Lola Blow’s 60 and Queefer Sutherland’s 26.

Next for the Outfit is a September 8th matchup at home against Grand Raggidy. Ohio will rest up for the postseason, as their next bout will be against Arch Rival (#20 DNN, 4NC WFTDA) on the first day of the WFTDA North Central playoffs in Niagara Falls, New York.

Minor fact check regarding

Minor fact check regarding this sentence: "In fact, the Ohio Rollergirls had not lost in front of their hometown fans since June of 2010 against Brew City." That Brewcity game was a closed door bout in Cinci, so the actual last time Ohio Roller Girls lost in front of a home crowd was March 2010 v. Naptown.
