COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – On Saturday, July 7, Team Bionic assembled once again in Colorado Springs and hosted their second home bout at City Auditorium, defeating the Tilted Thunder Rail Birds from Seattle, WA, 175-106.
Despite what the 69-point difference might suggest, there were multiple lead changes throughout the game. TTRB put up the first few points in the game, getting lead jammer consecutively. By the end of the second quarter, TTRB was in the lead with 79 points compared to Team Bionic’s 66. TTRB had success with back walls and heavy recycling in the first and second quarters, trapping Team Bionic jammers and holding them to a low-scoring pass.
Team Bionic, under the directions of coaches DeRanged and Helen Wheels, began with a wide jammer rotation in the first half including a range of newer skaters like Christy More Cowbell and Elektra Highvoltage to veteran skaters like Joy Collision, Juska and Psycho Babble.

After half time, Team Bionic came into the third quarter with a vengeance and took lead quickly; however, TTRB managed to achieve another lead change before Team Bionic kept the lead for good. Both teams had considerable penalty troubles and multiple power jams occurred. Team Bionic was quick to take advantage whereas TTRB had trouble holding back the Bionic jammers in power jam situations.
The fourth quarter began with Team Bionic ahead. Bionic came out full force with their veteran Bionic skaters and pushed up the score even more. TTRB was unable to re-take the lead, and with increasing penalty box visits, could not put a stop to Bionic’s jammers.
The last jam of the game was a power jam in favor of TTRB. Ecko and Psycho Babble began the jam as the only two Bionic blockers, with the other two seated in the penalty box. During the minute, Psycho Babble and Ecko were called off the track for penalties. TTRB's jammer cleared the pack with ease but before she could rack up points, the jam clock had expired.
Team Bionic returned to the banked track after a short hiatus since their last bout against the LADD Ri-ettes in L.A. The team introduced Akers, Juska, Joy Collision, and newly rostered Tyra Shanks and Parker to the Team Bionic bench. Team Bionic is still undefeated and holds a 3-0 record.

so what was the deal with the last jam?
After the "last" jam was whistled dead, both teams did the whole "good game" thing. But then the announcer on the PA said for everyone in the crowd to step back 5 feet because there had to be one more jam. He said it a few times, but the audience totally ignored him and there never was another jam. I assumed the last jam ended not because time ran out, but because one of the teams had committed enough major penalties that they dropped below the two blocker minimum. One team had 2 blockers and the other had 1 blocker - not much of a pack! But I never heard the official explanation. Any idea what really happened?
The last jam was supposed to
The last jam was supposed to be reset because of penalties but both teams had already taken their laps and decided that skating a reset jam would be pointless due to the points spread.
