LOS ANGELES, CA -- The reigning champions of the flat-track get a rematch against one of the originators of the banked-track revival when Gotham takes on LA in Los Angeles this Saturday.
This bout will be available live on DNN courtesy of the LA Derby Dolls. Bout starts at 7:45 Pacific time on Saturday, March 3.
Last year, Gotham played their first banked-track game in February, adjusting admirably quickly but losing to LA 132-106. They got two more games in at the Chicago Invitational tournament in November, coming back from a huge deficit to barely lose to Rocky Mountain 156-153 and then steamrolling Windy City 214-94 for their first win on the banked track. The Gotham / RMRG banked track bout, a rematch of a high-profile, hotly contested flat-track quarterfinal just a week previous at WFTDA Championships, finished second in DNN's 2011 Reader Poll for Bout of the Year.
Gotham's have a few new or quasi-new faces on the team: Brazilian Nut (fresh off an appearance for Team Brazil at the World Cup), Anne Phetamean (previously an all-star in 2008), and Puss 'n' Glutes (previously an all-star, but only having played in the Maine / Gotham scrimmage at last year's East Playoffs).
This bout marks the last Gotham game for Wild Cherri, who transferred to Gotham in the 2011 season and became a major force through the season, eventually being named MVP at Championships; vet Brigitte Barhot is also in her last Gotham game. Cherri proved to be as key a player on the banked track as she was on the flat, with some late-game heroic jams that got Gotham back in the game; she's likely to get a chance to go out with a bang here, particularly as key jammer Suzy Hotrod isn't currently rostered for Gotham.
LA's roster is very similar to the crew that was edged out by Team Bionic last month and defeated San Diego in January for their current 1-1 banked record on the year. From last month's roster, Iron Maiven and Gnarly Simon swap out and Venus De Maul'r and V. Lee come in.
