Team Bionic Defeats LA Ri-Ettes, 140-111

LOS ANGELES, CA -- In Team Bionic's second game, the irregular superteam took the lead away from the LA Ri-Ettes on the first jam of the second half and never trailed again on their way to a 140-111 victory on Saturday night.

Bionic took an early 8-0 lead against the Ri-Ettes, but fell behind for most of the first half. By the end of the first quarter, LA was leading 36-20, and spread that lead to 52-30 before Team Bionic turned on the afterburners and took a 61-60 lead three jams before the half. The Ri-Ettes regained the lead by the break, though, leaving the score at 67-65 LA halfway through.

But in the first jam of the second half, Bionic took the lead back when Atomatrix scored a 10-0 point jam against LA's Laguna Beyatch, bringing the score up to 75-67 in Bionic's favor, and LA would never regain the lead. Bionic held the Ri-Ettes scoreless for the next four jams, making it 83-67, and slowly edged their way up to the century mark at 100-76. But it wasn't easy for them, as it took 10 jams to book those 25 points, and that included an Atomatrix power jam that was held to a single pass.

Near the end of the quarter, though, LA got in some serious penalty trouble and Bionic struck hard. With LA down 2 blockers, Atomatrix got another power jam and racked up 18 points, bringing their tally up to 118-76. Fortunately for LA, though, Atomatrix earned a trip to the box, handing the PJ baton off to Laguna Beyatch. Her 15-0 run on that jam erased most of Atomatrix's tally, but LA was still in a 27-point hole at the end of the third quarter, 118-91.

Both teams edged their scores up by drips and drabs. 11 jams into the fourth quarter, Team Bionic had only increased their score by 12 points, while the Ri-Ettes gained 10, making it 130-101 Bionic. Bionic's Francey Pants handed the Ri-Ettes' Cris Affliction a power jam in the second to the last jam, and the Ri-Ettes converted for a 10-0. With the score 130-111 and a minute to play, LA still had an outside chance at the win.

But the possibility for that evaporated as Atomatrix blew through the pack immediately while Laguna Beyatch was held in a scrum roadblock. Lace N' Arsenic and Chargin' Tina held Atomatrix back briefly in her first scoring pass, but she escaped with a grand slam and enough time to go for a second scoring pass and a 10-0 jam, ending the game with a final score of 140-111.
