GMDD Black Ice Brawlers 123, Rock Coast 117

ESSEX JUNCTION, VT -- In the first game of a double-header Saturday night, Green Mountain's B team, the Black Ice Brawlers, hosted the new-to-derby Rock Coast Rollers from Maine. These teams had met in a scrimmage last season, and the Rollers put every lesson they learned into practice for this rematch. This was only the Rollers' second official bout ever, and they played an impressive game.

The Brawlers started things off with a 4-3 jam and held the lead despite not getting lead jammer in two of the next three jams. The Rollers tied things up at 16-all in jam 5 and then took the lead and didn't look back. The Brawlers snuck in a 40-40 tie with a power jam in jam 12, but that only prompted the Rollers to strengthen their lead, ending the period 68-57.

With five lead changes in the second period, the scores were tight and the action was quick. With about two minutes left, the Rollers were up 117-114, but the final jam saw Brawler Snatch McKraken use her lead jammer status to full effect and pull out a 123-117 win over the Rollers.
