INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Following a Friday where all the higher seeds scored victories, Saturday’s opener at Monumental Mayhem featured a second half meltdown by mid-pack seed Madison, allowing a Chicago Outfit team experiencing its inaugural trip to the WFTDA playoffs to keep its goal of a fifth place finish in the North Central intact.
Capitalizing on a 60-0 run midway through the second half, ninth-seeded Chicago Outfit upset sixth-seeded Madison 158-129 in the consolation bracket. With the win, the Syndicate advances in the consolation bracket to face seventh-seeded Brewcity at 3 pm Eastern Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Mad Rollin’ Dolls find themselves in Sunday’s 9th place bout, a significant drop from their 3rd place finish last year.
After the Outfit’s Sweet Mary Pain scored 10 with the bout’s opening lead jam, she was sent off for a track cut. This allowed Dairyland’s Mack the Knife to score nine, cutting the Outfit lead to 10-9. This began a 30-point uncontested streak for the Dolls, propelled by Charlie Hustle’s 10-pointer scored at 26:30 which extended Madison’s lead to 19-10. Eleven additional Dairyland points off the next five jams extended the lead to 30-10 with 20:30 left in the first half.
Captain Sweet Mary Pain stopped the Outfit scoring drought at 18:15 with a five-point tally, which cut the Madison lead to 30-15. Lola Blow added eight two jams later to pull the Syndicate to 30-24. Pain netted seven on the next jam, but was called off for a track cut which allowed Magic Missile to collect a 10-point counterattack, which extended Madison’s lead to 40-31. Pain’s trey on the next jam narrowed the margin to 40-34 at the 11:45 mark.
Dairyland went on a 16-6 run to finish the first half’s final ten. Thanks to back-to-back four pointers by Hustle and Mouse and an additional eight by Hustle with 4:10 left in the half, Madison built up a 56-41 advantage at intermission.
Knife sliced the Outfit with a six-pointer to start second half Dairlyand scoring, extending the Wisconsin lead to 60-41. Sutherland countered with four of her own, narrowing the gap to 15 with 27:15 left.
Penalties began to mount up for both squads as the second half progressed, with neither squad fully capitalizing on power jams until the Outfit’s Pain barreled out a 34-point monsterjam midway through the period. The captain’s bout-shifting strike erased an 11-point deficit and gave the Outfit its first lead since the opening whistle, a 102-79 advantage with 13:25 remaining.
The Outfit kept the momentum rolling with Gaygan’s 20-point power jam – the finish to a Syndicate 60-0 rally – to extend the Illinoisans' lead to 126-79 with 8:55 remaining. Although Madison kept scrapping until time expired, they were never able to seriously threaten for the lead after that, and the ninth seed at Monumental Mayhem outscored the Dolls 117-88 in
the second half a to claim the consolation bracket upset.
Pain led the Outfit with 85 while Twisted Halo scored 37 for the Mad Rollin’ Dolls.

Love the recaps...
But for those of us less familiar with team names, is it possible to print them with the league at first mention?
"With the win, the Syndicate advances in the consolation "
I'll assume the Syndicate is the Outfit's team name, but it's never explicitly stated. I hate to have to stop reading the action to actually *think* :-)
Again, big thanks to the writers. This coverage is what's keeping me informed!
