INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Monumental Mayhem’s fifth bout of Day Two followed the upset trend as eighth-seeded Arch Rival was able to defeat the fifth-seeded Cincinnati by a score of 138 – 98. Cincinnati had handily defeated bottom seed Ohio earlier in the day but they faced a tough test in the well-rested Arch Rival team, who had two bouts themselves on Day One.
The two teams both started out employing defensive strategies. Arch Rival took the first lead 11 – 2 on a nine point jam by May Require Stitches. Cincinnati got it back at 20 – 16 when Wheezy put up her own nine point jam. Cincinnati held the lead for four jams until Mighty Mighty Boston posted a 14-point jammer to give Arch Rival a six-point lead 36 – 30. Two jams later, K. Lethal’s posted the biggest jam of the night (20 points), giving Cincinnati a ten point lead, 50 – 40. Then, it appeared, Cincy ran out of steam.
The Arch Rival defense held Cincinnati down as Downtown Dallis, Mighty Mighty Boston, May Require Stitches and Black Market Baby went on a 47 – 8 run to close out the first half. Arch Rival led 87 – 58 as both teams went to their locker rooms.
Cincinnati seemed to recover a little and three jams into the second, Wheezy posted a nine point jam to cut the Arch lead to 94 – 71. However, that would be the last points the Black Sheep would score for seven jams as Arch went on a 23 – 0 run highlighted by a 19-point jam by Mighty Mighty Boston.
At the 15 minute mark, Arch Rival led 117 – 75 and Cincinnati could not close the gap. The final was 138 – 98.
Arch Rival was paced by Mighty Mighty Boston’s 58 points, May Require Stitches’ 38 and Downtown Dallis’ 32. Cincinnati was led by K. Lethal’s 42 point (36 in the first half). Arch Rival will face The Chicago Outfit for the second time in the tournament to determine fifth place. Cincinnati will play Brew City for seventh place.
