INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Columbus’s Ohio Rollergirls boosted themselves into ninth place to finish off their run at WFTDA North Central Regionals with an upset win over sixth seed Madison’s Dairyland Dolls, 138-118.
Madison earned a small lead early, but three consecutive jammer penalties on Mack the Knife opened the door for 30 Ohio points and a 34-11 lead. Ohio’s pack cohesion was much better than Madison’s, whose jammers struggled to score even with lead status. Madison lost out on a power jam opportunity in the first half’s final jam with Mouse wearing the star when she committed a fourth minor to earn her own trip to the box, although she did add eight points to close Madison to within 18 at half, 41-59.
With Mouse in the box to start the second half, Ohio veteran pivot Pippy RipYourStockings toed the jammer line for 14 points. Madison’s game fell apart five minutes into the half with another jammer penalty, this time on Charlie Hustle, and it was Kitty Liquorbottom and HellinBoi combining for 29 points for Ohio. A Madison penalty cascade added to their deficit, which grew to as much as 62.
Team USA alternate Wildberry Punch tried to rally her team, with 18 and 15 point efforts midway through the second, but Ohio would not fold, even though they only managed 22 points in the final 15 minutes. Veteran Madison utility player Chop Suzzy closed out her flat track career with 15 points in the game’s last jam for the final 20 point margin.
The penalty damage to Madison’s game was a huge factor in the game’s outcome. Madison committed eight jammer penalties to Ohio’s three, and ceded a whopping 96 points on powerjams to 31 for Ohio.
HellionBoi and Kitty Liquorbottom split scoring duties for Ohio with 47 an 45 points respectively. Madison’s Wildberry Punch led all scorers with 68 points.
