Quarterfinal: #1E Gotham vs #8E Providence or #9E Dutchland

Gotham is one of only 2 teams in the 40-team WFTDA tournament cycle to have gone undefeated in 2010, the other being 2009 WFTDA champs Oly. They've been extremely dominant both in and out of their region this year, going 7-0 with an average victory margin of 122 points -- and that schedule includes four unofficial top-ten teams in Rat City, Rose City, Bay Area and Charm City. Boston came the closest to them, but was still doubled up in a 164-82 loss. Given that record, it's hard to envision a scenario that has Gotham losing before the tournament championship match.
For the second year in a row, Gotham comes into the tournament as the top seed. They met one of their potential first opponents in their first game of last year's tournament, when they rolled over Providence 181-25, though they haven't played Dutchland before. A win in this match would set them up for a Saturday semifinal bout against Steel City or favored Charm City, and they've already routed Charm City once this year in a 201-75 finish.
If, as expected, the top two seeds reach the final again, it'll set up a highly anticipated rematch. 2 seed Philly narrowly upset Gotham in the final game of last year's tournament in a 90-89 finish that won the 2009 DNN Reader's Poll for Bout of the Year, and would seem to be the only team in the region with a reasonable shot at stopping them short of the Eastern title this time.
Gotham has been leaning slightly more heavily than in past years on the one-two punch of Bonnie Thunders and Suzy Hotrod at the jam line, often choosing to run them back to back until a lead is established and relievers can come in in the form of Carmen Monoxide, Hyper Lynx, Papierschnitt, Em Dash and 2010 transfer Swede Hurt. Their blocking continues to be keyed by standouts Kandy Kakes, Sweet Sherry Pie and Fisti Cuffs in a crew known for deadly effective teamwork in the pack.
