ST. LOUIS, MO -- As the Hometown Throwdown event brings together four teams in Portland over a three-day weekend of doubleheaders, a similar event is going down in St. Louis, bringing together #4 Philly, #12 Detroit, #18 Kansas City, and Arch Rival for two days of tripleheaders.
DNN brings you text coverage of all six games. ARRGageddon kicks off on Saturday evening at 6:30pm CST with Arch Rival facing #4 Philly, followed by #4 Philly vs #18 Kansas City at 7:55 and #12 Detroit vs Arch Rival at 9:15. Sunday's action starts in the morning with #12 Detroit vs #4 Philly at 11am, followed by #18 Kansas City vs #12 Detroit at 12:20pm and finishing with Arch Rival vs Kansas City at 1:40pm.
Philly

The Liberty Belles look to be the overwhelming favorite to sweep through this event undefeated -- though they lost their first three games of the year when they traveled to February's Wild West Showdown and took on #1 Oly, #6 Rose and #7 Rat City, they've won 7 in a row since then. That record includes two wins over top ten teams in #5 Denver and #10 Windy City, and they've already solidly defeated the highest-ranked team in this event, having beaten #12 Detroit 121-69 in May.

Detroit

Detroit has had a pretty successful year with a 6-1 record, but, as is their wont, they've been holding almost perfectly steady at their unofficial ranking in the high teens as most of their results have been unsurprising. The one minor upset in their recent history only involved a couple of ranking slots, as they defeated then #10 Madison in June.
Detroit has a lengthy history with 44 sanctioned bouts under their belts, but have never faced Kansas City or Arch Rival. They do have a bit of history with Philly, though -- in 2008, the year that Philly scored third place in the WFTDA Nationals by defeating Texas, Detroit had previously come very close to eliminating Philly from Eastern Regionals in a 102-92 squeaker.

Kansas City

Kansas City has had wildly varying results over the 5 games they've played in in 2010, making it harder to pin down their chances against this group. Their 11 point win in April over Omaha (unranked by DNN, officially #10 in the WFTDA North Central) was surprisingly narrow, and they followed it up with a 13-point loss to Atlanta, marking their first loss ever to a South Central team other than Texas. But they bounced back with a good showing against #8 Charm City, staying in the game very late before big jams at the very end gave Charm a 220-158 win.
KCRW's fortunes turned around a little bit this year with the return of early star Kelley Young, but neither Young or other key jammer Hall Balls will be on the KC roster this weekend, which will likely put a lot of the scoring duties on Track Rat, Bella Fire and Jade Lightning.

Arch Rival

As the only team in the tournament not on DNN's unofficial Power Rankings, any win for ARRG here would qualify as an considerable upset. They've turned their season around a bit after losing 5 in a row early, taking wins over Tampa Bay, Burning River and a restructuring Duke City and leaving them with a 4-5 record overall on the year.
Early in 2009, Arch Rival came pretty close to Kansas City in a 89-80 finish, and the event scheduling, added to Kansas City missing two critical jammers, might potentially be enough to open the door for a ARRG upset win. Kansas City vs Arch Rival is the last game of the event, and it'll be the second game in a row for Kansas City, who will have just played hard-hitting Detroit beforehand.

Where you at, Hipel? I see she's missing from the detroit roster.
Hipel=Memphis
S. Hipel was in Memphis for the SC Region Ref Clinic. And a huge thanks to her for counseling the competing teams Green Country and Memphis s on how to handle the bout since it had to be cancelled at half time due to the entire Mid Town Memphis power grid going down right in the middle of halftime.
Yeah, but what if...
S. Hipel was in Memphis for the SC Region Ref Clinic.
How do we KNOW that she hasn't been making out with DeRanged and Psycho Babble in a hot tub? Oh, the intrigue.
Hipel = Austin

Arch Rival has played Detroit!!!
Arch Rival played Detroit in January of 2009. Detroit won by like 60 points, if I remember correctly.

I hear she is spending a lot of time drinking wine out of a plastic cup in a swimming pool somewhere in the south.
KIllbox/Hipel
Is, in fact, roaming the backyards of Austin, TX's elite neighborhoods...drinking wine out of a plastic cup, according to TMZ, and wearing her signature skates while skating with some local team there these days. I heard that team is "ok," but just got a lil better 'cus Hipel is playing with them now.
I hope to see ya in Chi Town this Fall, Ms. Hipel. ;-)
