Watch Party Tournament!
The last weekend in June was a doozy for DNN -- we brought you whistle-to-whistle live coverage of a record-breaking 39 bouts in one weekend! To make sure you, your friends, and your fans were glued to DNN all weekend (as if you wouldn't have been anyway, right?), we launched the first-ever DNN Watch Party Photo/Video Contest. And holy sweet goddamn we got some great submissions. Now it's time to decide who wins this awesome prize package.
How? Through a reader poll tournament, of course! Derby folk love competition right? And what's more fun that a tournament?
Here's how it will work. The first poll will include all eleven submissions we received up to the Monday deadline. This first poll will seed the tournament bracket. And we all know how important seeding is to ultimate victory, so make sure to vote your favorite up! After 24 hours, the seeding poll will be closed and the tournament will begin. There were 11 submissions, so the lowest earner will be dropped (sorry!) and the remaining 10 will go into the single-elimination bracket below. Contest entries will go head to head, one matchup per day, until a victor emerges. So be sure to come back to this page every day until then and vote in the current "game".

While I do appreciate...chickens. In my belly. There's no sport here without your refs and officials. If our plotline and production value is lost in enthusiasm and exhaustion...we spent our time reffing a three day tournament instead. I think we get a pass.
Think of the last time you went to a tournament. Imagine if EVERY SINGLE REFEREE OR OFFICIAL could win a prize. We had "three teams" worth of officials at BotBIII, and we're going to split up the prizes so that everyone gets something. A solid thank you for all of the hard work they put in to try and help you all skate the game you want to skate. And it doesn't cost you anything but a vote.

Here in Austin everyone knows about Chicken Shit Bingo every Sunday at Ginny’s Little Longhorn. They set up a bingo board and a chicken walks around on it and wherever it leaves its poop, “B-23”, well you get the idea. While the Nashville folks are having some good times with their chickens there, and I'm sure we can come up with a way to gamble on Chicken Shit Derby, I thought this was a contest for who has the best watch party?! Chickens pretending to play the great sport of women’s flat track roller derby is not a watch party. Santa Cruz is having a watch party!!!!!! They should have just been declared the winners of this contest to begin with. I counted 7 people in the 1 picture in the chicken video of folks watching DNN, compared to Santa Cruz come on now!!!! There isn't a person out there who didn't get a smile when they watched Poultry Derby. You included, gentle reader. Offbeat? Yes. Different? Absolutely. A bit of fun during a great day of watching Derby? Yes.
The greatest compliment was DNN's showing of our video all day Sunday during and between bouts. That showed us it has some merit. We are very proud of this, and the response from the west coast, pacific northwest, Denver (whatup, Denver!), Canada, Kentucky, Atlanta, and the United Kingdom made us feel like we brought a few laughs to our fellow Derby fans. This is the stuff real memories are made of.

The almost perfectly symmetrical increase in both vote totals is pretty remarkable, but it's totally legit. Definitely not a site glitch, and you'd be surprised how easy it is to recognize cheating (albeit time-consuming to clean up... thankfully not seeing it tonight!). That's just the way the votes are coming in. Pretty crazy.

I gotta say though, looking at the votes all day and following it as closely as I have been doing, I am still surprised when there's no voting coming in , there's literally no voting, for either side.
