Preview: Team Awesome vs Team SeXY

LAS VEGAS, NV -- When Rollercon first started in 2005, there were no male flat-track teams at all, and hence no male players in the action. Every year since then, though, the integration of male players into the challenges and open scrimmages has moved forward as the national men's derby scene begins to take shape.

This bout will be streamed live on DNN courtesy of Sure Grip at 12 noon Pacific (3pm Eastern).

As such, Rollercon 2009 saw the debut of the first-ever men's flat-track all-star team, Team SeXY. Pulling skaters from all corners of the nation -- not to mention the UK and Australia -- they faced off against one of the sport's first women's all-star teams, Team Awesome. In a 20 minute expo bout on the heat of Fremont Street, Team SeXY was barely victorious, eking out a 43-37 win -- though Team Awesome had to bring in some last-second replacements to fill out their roster.

About six months later, the two teams met again on the banked track in San Diego. This time it was Team SeXY at the disadvantage, shorthanded with 8 players and most playing on a banked track for the first time -- but still acquitting themselves honorably in a 132-102 loss.

Saturday's high-noon bout marks the tie-breaker -- and the first time SeXY and Awesome will go full-length on a flat track with deep rosters on both sides.

The makeup of both teams has fluctuated due to injury and availability over the three meetings. On Team SeXY, founder Justice Feelgood Marshall, Quadzilla, Shortbus, Johnny Smokescreen and Rinkworm have been present for all three, while Cupples Sk8 and The Rev played last summer on the flat track and Dirty Larry played last winter in San Diego. Team SeXY debuts 5 players this time out: Streak, Bat Wing, Magnum P.I.M.P., Ryrod and Nick the Medic.

Team Awesome has a much different look than the last couple of meetings, as only Trish the Dish carries over from both past matchups. They have a very dangerous detachment from #3 in the nation Rocky Mountain Roller Girls with She Who Cannot Be Named, Frida Beater, Whipity Pow and Assaultin' Pepa all playing; TA vets Goodie Two Skates, Dahmernatrix, MEDUSA, Daddy's Girl, Lulu Lockjaw and Harmony Killerbruise have all faced Team SeXY once. Shadow Soldier debuts in the rivalry.
