Preview: #23 North Star @ #25 Brewcity

MILWAUKEE, WI -- Milwaukee's Brewcity Bruisers host North Star's Supernovas in a matchup between two very closely matched North Central teams this Saturday.

Brewcity is officially ranked just a hair above North Star in the WFTDA regional rankings, holding the #5 spot to North Star's #6 -- but DNN's unofficial national rankings have North Star a step ahead at #23 to Brewcity's #25. Whichever way this game goes, though, it won't affect seeding for the upcoming North Central regional tournament (Sept 11-13), as the official WFTDA ranking period closed on June 30 and results from games after that date cannot be factored in rankings.

Brewcity has won both previous meetings between the two teams, squeaking by in a 1 pointer in June 2009 and getting a more solid 27-point victory in the opening bout of September's North Central regionals. Comparing their shared opponents this season, though, doesn't shed too much light on how they might match up this year -- they both played Cincinnati within three weeks of each other, with Cincy winning by 68 over Brewcity and 69 over North Star.

Most recently, North Star had a successful run at ECE, knocking off #17 Nashville 105-69 and unranked Carolina 99-70; they're 3-2 overall on the 2010 season with a big win over Sioux Falls along with losses to #11 Windy City and #19 Cincinnati.

On the flip side, Brewcity opened up with a 4-0 run this year but they've been unable to knock off a top 25 team -- they lost to #19 Cincinnati and #12 Detroit. Currently their 2010 record stands at 5-2.

North Star's offense remains built around a jammer combination of MEDUSA, Katarina Hit and Minnesota transfer Jawbreaker; Brewcity is powered by jammers Carrie A. HackSaw, Rejected Seoul, High D Voltage and Skittle. NSRG is still hurting from the loss of key blocker Cher Noble earlier this season, while Brewcity has a particularly troublesome pair of hitters in Anna Krajcik and Servin' Justice.
