DNN 2010 Core Fund Drive Update
With July drawing to a close and WFTDA tournament season looming, we thought it'd be a good time to catch you up on our fundraising efforts and shed a little light on where we're headed next.
First of all, your response to the DNN's 2010 Core Fund Drive has been absolutely breathtaking. When we posted our ambitious call for contributions, we honestly weren't sure if we were even being realistic. While we were confident that our ambitious plans were all things that the DNN audience would find really valuable, and we took great care to strip our funding needs to the barest possible level to accomplish them... well, $25,000 is still a hefty chunk of change.
Eleven weeks later, we're a remarkable 73% of the way toward that lofty goal. Thank you. We've said it before, we'll say it again, we never get tired of saying it: thank you. You not only make it financially possible for us to continue pursuing our goals -- your generosity also fuels our internal fires, because you've made it as clear as can be that you value how we spend our time on this project.
We initially set a somewhat arbitrary target date of June 30, two months after the start of the fund drive. By that date, we had cleared 2/3 of our funding goal. Based on that rate of contributions, and on a better understanding of our cash flow and upcoming expenses, we extended the deadline another month, to August 1st. We have a way to go yet, but we think RollerCon this week gives us a primo opportunity to make one more push to finish this thing out, and we hope you'll help!
We believe strongly that many hands make light work, and we think that applies to just as well to shared cost as it does to shared effort. We'd love to finish this fund drive out on the strength of a large number of small contributions. We're focusing this final push on our time at RollerCon, so let's put it in these terms:
If everyone who attends RollerCon this year is willing to contribute $3.00 to DNN's Core Fund Drive, we will reach our target.
Granted, for the same $3.00, you could get a pair of $1.50 Budweisers or Bud Lights at Hooters Casino Hotel (a special you may well have learned about from the RollerCon 2010 Survival Guide right here on DNN). Really, though, which would you rather have?

Come on, be honest with yourself. You don't even drink Bud Light.
So, if you're going to RollerCon, help us reach our goal! To make your contribution, find the DNN table at the Riedell Meet & Greet on Thursday night. Select vendors in the vendor village will also be accepting contributions for DNN throughout the event, so if you don't find us, look for those collection buckets!
Not attending RollerCon? You can still be one of the many hands.

um yeah...
Imagine a world without a DNN....
Ok, now send them internet money ;) I think we all want awesome regional/national coverage!
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!
OI! OI! OI!
DNN has brought so much happiness to our procrastination time, and watching the "big girls" play derby has brought us up a whole new level.
Watching the Denver 'slow pack', or the way Atlanta has just grown to reach #2 in central south WFTDA rankings, falling in love with EACH AND EVERY SKATER in the Sandiego Wild Fires... all thanks to DNN.
I'm going to ask each girl who WISHES she was at RollerCon to donate some money to the collection at training tonight ... hopefully the Brisbane City Rollers can make a nice little contribution.
<3
Penergy!
Brisbane City Rollers, Australia.
Why to donate
The last question my mum asked me at the airport yesterday - edging out such Parental Greatest Hits as "You haven't forgotten your passport, have you?", "Are you really going to carry that stuffed wombat onto the plane instead of putting it in a bag? Aren't you embarrassed?" and "When was the last time you brushed your hair, young lady?" - was "Am I going to be able to watch your games on the internet?"
That's worth more than three bucks. $5, apparently, cos that's what she gave me to put in the collection tin.
Starting with "My Mum"

I hear a beautiful accent when I read that. <3
And ending with "collection tin"
I am SO GLAD that a whole pile of Aussies are headed here this year. It is true -- you will never get tired of listening to them.
Exception
you will never get tired of listening to them.
Apparently you haven't heard the Mel Gibson tapes.
Mel
What makes you think Mel Gibson is Australian?
Logic, of course
By the same logic that assumes Andy Samberg is a New York comedian.
(no, I didn't realize that Mel was born in America. He sure fakes that Australian accent pretty well.)
The "You haven't forgotten
The "You haven't forgotten your passport, have you?" advice/question is actually pretty useful. Last year, a few people did forget their passports and didn't make it.
I put my $3 in
I'm not at RollerCon, but I put another $3 into the kitty anyway. DNN, please take more of my money so I can watch roller derby online. Thanks, and you're welcome.
paypal
Is there a button somewhere on the page? Sorry if I have overlooked it.
fixed!
Thank you for asking! It was clear as soon as we got to RollerCon that the $3 angle, while funny, was misguided -- we do still need to hit this goal, and we're looking for ways to drive it the rest of the way.
Cookie that homepage pop-up
Srsly.... :)
it is?
are you blocking cookies?
Yep, it is. It's tied to
Yep, it is. It's tied to your user session, so as long as you stay logged in (don't clear your cookies when you close your browser) it should remember that you've seen it already. Believe me, we wrung our hands quite a bit over making sure that the thing didn't annoy the hell out of everyone. But if you click "log out", that clears your session cookie so the system doesn't remember anything about you.
If other people are seeing that box all the time, do let me know and I'll try to sort it out. You really should only be seeing it once per user session. And now we know how Ira Glass feels when he sheepishly has to beg for money during NPR pledge drives.
all good now...
I logged in. :)
Oh yeah, and everyone DONATE!!
