Weekly Rollup and Open Thread, 6/25/2010
Pamela Ribon, author of Going In Circles (let's call it Derby Girl for adults), writes a little bit about roller derby for ... oprah.com. The mainstream invasion continues!
A couple of fans from Nashville have a remarkably direct pitch for skaters considering transferring to another league.
Could this be the first member of the RFTDA?
Here's a pretty good roundup review of 5 roller derby documentaries from Boston announcer Pelvis Costello: Hell on Wheels (Texas), Blood on the Flat Track (Rat City), Not Your Momma's Roller Derby (Providence), Brutal Beauty (Rose City), and Hugs and Bruises (Hammer City). Thanks to HCRD's Perky Set for the tip.
But wait, there's more roller derby documentary! Here's a trailer for R.O.C.K.-umentary, an upcoming one about the Rollergirls of Central Kentucky (check out the movie blog as well).

True. True. True.
I just laughed right out of my desk chair. That Nashville fan video is effin awesome!
My favorite line:
"You may love your grandma but that bitch doesn't know the difference between a back block and a can opener."
Good work Belligerent NRG fans! (Which is the most accurate moniker ever. I've seen you all in action.)
and good luck NRG at ECE! Kick some ass.
Pamela Ribon = May Q. Holla,
Pamela Ribon = May Q. Holla, awesome skater for the L.A. Derby Dolls (to whom the book is dedicated). We're super proud of her and the book!
Nashville fans
That video may be my new best favorite thing ever.*
* - Until the next shiny, pretty thing comes along. But seriously, it's awesome.

Go go gadget kneefalls!
The RFTDA-bot is executing double knee falls right there in that link. That bot's already working on passing skills assessments.

JoeXcore!
We love JoeXcore up in Indianer :)
how many games per season?
I'm sure I could slowly figure this out via FlatTrackStats, but I hoped this'd be quicker.
NBA and NHL teams play 82 games in the regular season, MLB teams play about twice that.
How many regular season games does your travel team play in a year? Who holds the record? Looks like Charm had 14 last year but Montreal will beat that this year since they've already played 12?
Boston played 19
In 2009, Boston played a total of 19 bouts. I believe this is the record so far for a WFTDA league.
Those 2009 bouts included 14 regular season bouts, 3 bouts at East Coast regionals, & 2 bouts at Nationals.
Go Beantown!!!
bouts for charm
We played 18 games in 2009
14 of them were sanctioned interleague play
1 was regulation against newly minted wftda members Dutchland, they did not want to sanction
3 of them were at Eastern Regionals 2009
=18 games.
How many bouts..
The Dallas Derby Devils have played 15 so far this year, if memory serves they played 9 in less than 3 weeks between the Govenor's Cup in Austin and thier own Clover Cup Tourney in Ft. Worth, then a month later 3 in the Franky Panky Tourney in Tampa.
the Monthly wrap-up?
I miss the Friday weekly wrap-ups. What needs to happen so they continue? More leagues submitting items?
