Preview: #11 Charm @ #3 Rocky
DENVER, CO -- Denver's Rocky Mountain (officially #3 in WFTDA West Region and unofficially #3 in the nation via DNN) plays host to Baltimore's Charm City (#4 in WFTDA Eastern Region and #11 nationally via DNN) this Saturday, June 5.
This bout will be covered live on DNN via live video stream. Join us for the action at 6:30pm Mountain (8:30pm Eastern).
For Charm City, it'll be the fourth of five games against the best in the West; they've already played -- and lost to -- Oly, Rose City and Rat City this year, and they'll take on Denver in Baltimore in July. Charm is currently on a 4 game losing streak, the longest of their existence (with the first loss of the slide against equally tough Gotham). Overall, they are 2-4 on the 2010 campaign with early-season wins against Montreal and River City. Rocky Mountain is 6-1 for 2010, with their only loss coming by just 20 points against last year's champs Oly.
The teams have met once previously, back in 2008, where Charm City came out ahead in a close one, 115-97. This is a much different RMRG team, though -- most notably, Psycho Babble, Whipity Pow, DeRanged and Ecko have joined since that matchup, and that star power has significantly increased the Rocky Mountain fortunes since then. This month, Rocky Mountain hit their highest DNN ranking ever by rising to #3 in the nation on the strength of a 99-point pummeling of 2009's championship runner-up Texas.
Charm City will be without some of their major weapons in this one, as well -- for the first time since joining the team in late 2007, Dolly Rocket will not be suiting up, and Charm is also down longtime vets Flo Shizzle and Mistress May Eye, as well as new force Deathany.

Good luck Charm!!
I will be watching from Texas! Excited to see you all later this month!
What an excellent bout last night!
Fantastic gameplay, with Charm City pulling out some RollderDolls plays. A few debates among refs regarding validity of some points; great skating and teamwork on both sides. Precisely the kind of game I love to watch (even if I did almost get me and my camera tumbled at a couple points!).
Great job, both teams...and Charm, you're always welcome back here to the land of the Oxygen Deprived!
It's kinda funny...
The biggest thing I heard from everyone about going to Denver was that the altitude difference would be a huge adjustment, and I really didn't feel it. I took to the hotel treadmill shortly after getting into town, and I wasn't 100 percent, but I attribute that more to the time zone change than anything else; I was working out at midnight Eastern time. Skated and walked about 4 miles Friday, walked about another 3 miles before the bout Saturday, and the only difference I really noticed was the humidity. Is the altitude really a huge factor for most people?
I think I figured it out. We
I think I figured it out. We are also O2 deprived because of all the smog. So losing O2 b/c of the altitude difference in Denver with clean air, is about the equivalent to our smog polluted air.
Doing some quick calculations...
It scares me that I know just enough physics to test that hypothesis. If I get some free time this summer and remember this post, I'll come back to it.
