MDC Preview: New York @ Harm City

HAGERSTOWN, MD -- Nearly two years ago, the Harm City Homicide and the New York Shock Exchange took place in the first sixty-minute men’s bout in the flat track era in Kendall Park New Jersey.  This Saturday, the Homicide hosts the Shock Exchange for their first home bout of the official 2010 Men’s Derby Coalition Season at Turner’s Skate Palace in Hagerstown, Maryland.

MDC Season Standings

New York 2-0
Pioneer Valley 2-1
Harm City 0-1
Connecticut 0-2

As two of the three founding leagues of the Men’s Derby Coalition (Pioneer Valley is the third, and Connecticut was added later) there’s a lot of history between these two teams.  This bout doesn’t just count towards bragging rights, but the season standing in their four-team, six-game season.

In four meetings over the past three years, the Homicide has not yet been able to beat the Shock Exchange.  The last meeting was a 20-minute exhibition bout at the Charm City Championships this past October.  The Homicide jumped out to an early lead due to a power jam by Justice Feelgood Marshall, which got the crowd cheering for an upset, but the Shock Exchange rallied with a few big jams and some good defense late to win 56 to 35.

The Homicide has had a busy 2010 up to this point. They opened the season in April at the Men’s Derby Conference against home team Pioneer Valley and fell 117 to 73 putting their MDC record at 0-1.  In May, they traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana to play in the men’s bracket at Spring Roll and placed a respectable fourth, defeating Race City and losing to Dallas and eventual tournament champions Puget Sound.  They also hosted and lost to the Magic City Misfits a couple of weeks ago in the biggest loss of their history, 249-87.

The roster of the Homicide still has the core of captain Virginia Slim and Justice Feelgood Marshall, both agile threats at jammer, and pack work is keyed by Sin Diesel, Solo, and Gearhead. In October 2009, Homicide added triple threat Quad Almighty, and they recently got back Carnage Asada, a lanky, effective jammer. First year rookies Fo Wheel and Abe Froman debuted at the MDC game against Pioneer Valley.

Both bouts of the Shock Exchange’s season have resulted in victories.  A 164-33 defeat of Connecticut at the Men’s Derby Conference, and a 134-83 victory over the Pioneer Valley Dirty Dozen, which marks the only time the Shock Exchange has trailed at halftime.  The Shock Exchange has welcomed the return of Rinkworm who has rejoined their jamming core along with captain Jonathan R, Teen Wolf, Mothra, and new addition Ladies Knight.  At blocker the NYSE still features veterans Vader, Maulin’ Brando, Angelo Death and pivot Abraham Drinkin’.

There will be a 30 minute pregame exhibition featuring skaters from Charm City Roller Girls.

Abe Drinkin’ 4&7 // Angelo Death 138 // Filthy McNasty 61 // Flames Cagney 1000 // Jonathan R 6 // Ladies Knight 241 // Maulin’ Brando 14 // Mothra 9ish // Rinkworm 11 // T-Stop Tornado 517 // Teen Wolf ||| // Vader 4ce // Wolfgang Von Stomp 40th

010 Abe Froman // 1* Sin Diesel // CH4 Carnage Asada // 7 Quad Almighty // 8 Fo Wheel? // 24 Locke Ness Tomster // 47 Bram Stroker // 423 Gearhead // 523 Virginia Slim // 1300 Solo // 1618 Magnificent Bastard // 1954 Justice Feelgood Marshall

So, compare the point spread here and the Magic City/Harm City spread. Who's better, NYSE or Magic City?

You do some triangulation, rank the various men's teams and then the rest of us will poke holes in your logic.

There is no need to compare

There is no need to compare point spreads , MCM is a young and determined team I am sure we will get a chance to play NYSE one day. Hopefully sooner then later.

You can look at it 100 different ways but there is still no way to tell what would happen.Hell Between myself and 1 other of my jammers we scored 200pts against HCH if said jammers couldnt make that game who knows what could happen so there 1 of 100 reasons to not guess about it lol

I am all for this mens tournament that keeps getting mentioned anyone going to step up and actually make it happen ?

Captain Streak #19
Magic City Misfits

Where I come from, you just

Where I come from, you just volunteered.

You knew that, didn't you?

hmm almost 100pts difference

Man that's like using the whole Charm City reference eh'

Rocky beats Charm by 137

Oly only beats them by 54

So obviously Rocky is better than Oly right?

Well until they actually played. Which was in between the two bouts but its just triangulation right.

Honestly I have never seen Magic or NYSE play, but I would love to, up close and personal. I did catch a glimpse of some NYSE and Magic footage on their websites.

SO who wants to hold Men's Nationals 2011? PSOD will be there with all 14 skaters, not just 9 because we are always broke from traveling, we will save up for this trip.
