Preview: #11 Charm City @ #8 Texas

AUSTIN, TX -- The Texas Rollergirls will take on the Charm City Roller Girls Sunday night in Austin in a rematch of one of Texas' closest bouts of 2009, where Texas led for the whole bout but had to stave off a late-rally from Charm to win 112-108.

Currently Texas is ranked 8th in the nation by Derby News Network, while Baltimore's Charm City is ranked 11th by DNN. Officially, Texas sits at the top of the WFTDA South Central region, while Charm City is at #4 in a tough Eastern Region.

This could be the toughest home interleague bout for the Texas Rollergirls since they were narrowly upset in December of 2006 by Tucson. The Texecutioners have been on the road taking on some of the toughest teams in the WFTDA this season. While losing bouts to highly ranked teams like the Denver, Rocky Mountain, and defending WFTDA champion Oly, the Texies have been working on improving many of its newer talented skaters on the 2010 squad. These match ups against the best flat track teams in the nation should have helped to sharpen them up for this home WFTDA-sanctioned bout.

Top jammers for Texas include Olivia Shootin’ John, Bloody Mary, and Molotov M Pale. Texas will feature some strong team blockers including Belle Starr, Shank, Curvette, and Crackerjack.

Charm City is known to be one of the most physical teams on the East Coast. Last weekend they defeated a tough Kansas City team in Baltimore, 220-158, an impressive win. This team was a couple of injuries away from making into the WFTDA National tournament in 2009, but this year’s squad is healthy thus far.

Leading the team from Baltimore is legendary East Coast jammer Joy Collision. Other more-than-capable jammers include Just Carol (who scored 112 points against Kansas City last weekend), Lady Quebeaum, and Bambi's Revenge. While able to score big points in a bout, Charm City is mainly known for its rough and tough physical blockers. Dolly Rocket is probably the most renowned blocker, but Rosie the Rioter and Holly Gohardly are extremely accomplished in causing distress to opposing jammers or blockers.
