Hosting league Brewcity has two particularly interesting matchups to close the action on each day. On Saturday, Brewcity takes on Burning River in a rematch of an intense bout at 2009's North Central regionals. There, Brewcity managed to erase a 30 point deficit in just under 6 minutes to tie the game and win a very rare overtime match, 126-116. That match left Brewcity in 7th place for the tournament and Burning River in 8th, but their fortunes have gone in separate directions since then -- Brewcity currently officially sits at 5 in the North Central while Burning River holds the 10 spot after an upset 99-77 loss to Naptown last December. Burning River has not yet played this year, while Brewcity has gone 2-0 with wins over Fort Wayne and Arch Rival.
On Sunday night, Brewcity takes on an up-and-coming challenger from the South Central region, Tampa Bay. TBDD has only played on two weekends thus far in 2010, but has picked up 7 bouts in that amount of time in the Clover Cup and Franky Panky tournaments. Their record on the year is 3-4, but they came impressively close to a top-25 team when they nearly completed a big comeback on #20 Dallas but fell just a bit short at 131-111 at Franky Panky. An upset of Brewcity here would go a ways towards further raising the national profile of this steadily improving league.
For those with an eye on rankings, the weekend's marquee game comes on Sunday at 5pm, when Windy City (#1 in the North Central region via WFTDA, #9 nationally via DNN) takes on Madison (#3 NC WFTDA, #10 nationally via DNN). Madison narrowly upset Detroit in the semifinals of the 2009 North Central regionals but was solidly defeated 150-56 in the championship bout by Windy City. This rematch offers a shot at revenge, but it may be an even tougher road than last time. Since the NC Regionals, Madison has lost one of their major weapons with Juke Boxx transferring to Minnesota, and the already very strong WCR team now features nationally renowned Jackie Daniels (who transferred from Grand Raggidy this year). Windy City has not lost to a North Central team in over three years.
There are some notable matchups elsewhere on the card as well; the tournament's sole Western Region team, Jet City, has a chance to impress with bouts against Philly's B-team the Independence Dolls, Arch Rival, and Sioux Falls. The Chicago Outfit also takes a shot at the Independence Dolls on Saturday, along with a battle with previously-mentioned Tampa on Sunday. And Omaha, who turned some heads by coming within just 11 points of Nationals regular Kansas City last month, gets an opportunity to demonstrate that score wasn't an outlier with battles against Ohio and Grand Raggidy.

Question
The Jet City Omaha game was scrubbed. Does anyone know why? I was really looking forward to that one.
Jet City
I heard on the boutcast that the opponents had to pull out due to too many injuries, so not enough bodies. I could be wrong though
Jet city bout
Jet city was supposed to play Sioux Falls on Sunday but it ended up being forfeited because Sioux was down to a very low roster.
Thank you for the correction
Thank you for the correction and the update.
Sioux Falls played Saturday's
Sioux Falls played Saturday's game with nine skaters, i believe, and lost two to injury that day ((i think)), leaving seven ((if i remember correctly)). I know that you need eight players in uniform for an NBA game, but i don't see anything in the WFTDA rules establishing a required minimum number of players to begin play. There is language in the rules stating that a referee MAY declare a forfeit if a team is down to "five or fewer" non-injured skaters due to expulsions, but i can't find anything establishing a skater minimum for tournament play. I'd be interested to get the official ruling on this.
It takes 1 to play and 2 to
It takes 1 to play and 2 to win. :)
Jet v Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls played Saturday with 9, counting a non-charter skater as this was against an AP league (The Fox Cityz Foxz) and not one of the sanctioned games that weekend. Due to injuries several injuries, they chose to pull out of their 2nd game. It was a team choice, not a rule enforcement that resulted in the game being scrubbed. Sioux Falls graciously released the game slot for us (at Jet Cities request) so that we could try and find another team to fill in to replace the sanctioned game that Jet lost with the forfeit. We were unable to shuffle the schedules around to make it work and ended up with a pretty awesome black/white scrimmage that a lot of people got to participate in.

Ah! I did not know that Sioux
Ah! I did not know that Sioux Falls pulled out of the second game, as i heard scorekeepers discussing the possibility of forfeiture after their last injury and assumed it was some kinda rule or something. Thanks Killy! Also, nice job on that one-typist textcast!
Sioux Falls - which skaters?
That's a bummer - who got hurt? If I recall correctly, their interleague season is over now until the fall, pending regional seedings of course! Hopefully that's plenty of time to heal their injuries. I love me some Sioux Falls. They are great hosts if you ever get the chance to travel to lovely South Dakota.
Sioux Falls
We had several girls out w knee injuries, broken ankle, and a concussion. We skated w Painmaker, Blondezilla, Hollicidal, Betsy Wrecksie, N.NitaMeds, Casey Lacem, and Myself. It was a great scrimmage on Sunday, though, don't ever tell a Chicago Outfit skater to go to white. She was a one man team in the back LOL.
