Weekly Rollup and Open Thread, 4/9/2010
Two week's worth of links this week:
This Kitsap County Business Journal article detailing the economic benefits the area reaped from hosting the Wild West Showdown is one more weapon in the arsenal for any league looking for civic support for hosting a major roller derby event.
Richard Whittaker covered the TXRG Hustlers trip to London in this Austin Chronicle piece.
Cincinnati Enquirer journalist (and Cincinnati Rollergirl) Miss Print penned (well, typed) this inspiring piece about a young leaguemate braving a preventative double mastectomy with stellar support from her league.
WFTDA announced April's Featured League, the Tampa Bay Derby Darlins, and featured skater, Frida Beater.
Pitchit takes you inside the pack with helmet cam footage from the Men's Derby Conference.
The National Roller Skating Museum is currently seeking modern roller derby items for their collection. You can send donations (particularly league-specific items) to:
USARS
PO Box 6579
Lincoln NE 68506
The L.A. Derby Dolls "RaD" volunteer media department has done it again, with a bout intro video that's a remarkable parody of the opening for Entourage. Chock full of little derby easter eggs, this would've been our featured video except it really must be experienced in 1080p. That's right, RaD produced this thing in full resolution HD (!).
Instead, this week's featured video, brought to our attention by Bryant Mumble, has Kola Loka doing something basically impossible at about 0:46.
P.S. Kola Loka's back!
