Philly Announces Extravaganza Schedule

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Philly Roller Girls today announced the matchups and schedule for the 20 WFTDA Sanctioned bouts taking place on Saturday and Sunday at this year's East Coast Derby Extravaganza, which takes place June 25-27 at the Sportsplex in suburban Feasterville Trevose.

DNN's live video and text coverage from the East Coast Derby Extravaganza is presented by Fast Girl Skates.

For the fourth year running, the Extravaganza will be the largest event on the roller derby calendar in terms of sheer volume of bouts. Taking place right before the WFTDA second quarter rankings deadline, the event again features many highly competitive WFTDA matchups as teams jockey for position in the resulting regional tournament seedings (which are based on that quarter's WFTDA rankings).

Well, shucks.

Both days, Minnesota and North Star overlap -- we can't watch each other's bouts. That's too bad.

yeah

That happened to Sacred City and B.A.D. at the Wild West Showdown. It's a bummer, but it happens.

Hammer City and Montreal overlap too

:( Hopefully we'll be able to catch the second period. We're just so happy to be a part of the ECE this year!

Overlaps...

... the curse of every multitrack event.

DNN aims to have lo-res archived video for as much of this as possible, and the host league is working out details for DVD sales as well. It ain't at all like being there(TM), but it beats the alternative!

It's "The Man..."

...always trying to keep a poor Canadian down.

Oh wow, there's actually a web site that's all aboot "Canuxploitation" films. And here I thought I was going to coin such a phrase...

No sanctioned action on

No sanctioned action on Friday this year? Or maybe the Main Event will be a particularly awesome challenge bout on Friday night? I mean, we've got to have *something* sweet going on when the power goes out...

I am assured that there are Friday bouts

But I haven't seen an official announcement. Of course, Philly's busy hosting the London Rollergirls right now, so I'm willing to be patient.

In other news, we're gonna move all our internal coverage chatter to the comments from now on. I don't see how anything bad could possibly come from that.

I agree. But this is too

I agree. But this is too straightforward. In future, let's hijack threads that are less relevant. Now, about those ECE travel plans...

I need a place to stay or a hotel to share.
Doesn't DNN have a forum yet? What gives?

friday night bout

my comment didn't go where i told it to go, but the friday night bout is definitely worth coming early for: windy city vs. gotham.

Yeah, its pretty sweet

Come Friday night for--Gotham/Windy City!

correction!

friday night headline bout is gotham vs. WINDY. not philly. =)

our independence dolls are playing their wall street traitors, so that is what possible aided the confusion.

oh man

My reading comprehension has dramatically suffered as my incoming email rate has skyrocketed. Thanks for catching this -- fixed!

A casual obervation on the match-ups.

It's hard to imagine how tough it is to arrange appropriate match-ups at an event like this. One tendency I've picked up as I replaced the DNN Power Rankings with the WFTDA regional rankings is that many times they seemed to have picked teams with the same rank from another region.

This presumes a similar overall strength between regions and a similar distribution (top-heavy, bottom-heavy, thicker in the middle, etc) between regions. Some of those look OK to me, a few have me scratching my head. It'll be interesting to see how all that plays itself out. It'll also be interesting to see how the regional rankings have changed for those teams when the first quarter 2010 rankings are finally released by WFTDA.

teams play who they want

Not sure if I'm misreading your post or not Poobah, but I just wanted to clear up the fact that all bouts are matched up between the teams playing. The only time this doesn't happen is when a team has to drop out and the next team on the waiting list is offered their bouts. ECE organizers do not coordinate bout match-ups, only the schedule. And when you see Annie Christ at ECE, buy her a drink or a cupcake or something!
