#19 Atlanta Faces Angel City, #15 San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA -- This Saturday night, the San Diego Derby Dolls are hosting two WFTDA teams, the Atlanta Rollergirls and the Angel City Derby Girls, for a double header of roller derby action at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Both bouts will be covered live via video on DNN courtesy of the San Diego Derby Dolls. Coverage begins at 5:30pm Pacific (8:30pm Eastern) with Atlanta vs. Angel City, followed by Atlanta vs. San Diego at 7:45pm Pacific (10:45pm Eastern).

Atlanta is trekking all the way across the country to take on the two southern California teams.  First Atlanta’s all-star travel team, the Dirty South, will face Angel City’s all-star travel team, the Hollywood Scarlets.  Then the Dirty South will take the track again to try to put out the Wildfires, SD’s all-star travel team.

The Georgia girls just recently returned to DNN's top-25 Power Rankings by winning the Clover Cup in March, taking out Houston and Dallas in the process and landing at #19. Officially, Atlanta is currently ranked #5 in the WFTDA South Central region, but they're likely to rise in the next quarterly release, as Houston and Dallas currently hold the 3 and 4 spots. Angel City had a short stint at #23 on the Power Rankings last summer, but dropped off in the wake of the Regionals cycle. Officially, they're at #8 in the WFTDA Western Region.

SD is coming off the road after being in Ohio last week, bringing home a 129-108 win against Cincinnati, to whom SD lost last year.  SD’s win against Cincy pushed them into the Power Rankings #15 slot, their highest charting on the Power Rankings yet. SD’s Wildfires are not a WFTDA team and therefore have no official ranking.

Much like when Cincinnati visited SD last year, Atlanta and SD will meet up a second time Sunday morning for a non-public game on the banked track at SD’s Dollhouse in downtown San Diego.

YAYCDG!

Best of luck to YAYCDG playing with only 10 girls. We've had a really bad rash of injuries, transfers and emergencies pop up before this game but no matter, the girls will still have a great time out there.

Have a great night everyone, I'm so sad I can't be there.

great showing...

Much love for the ACDG, they did what they could under the circumstances, the ten skaters they put out there played their asses off. Punk's ejection was a classic, she threw a 'fit' of sorts, I don't blame her, it was a frustrating night for her and the rest of the ACDG but they kept their spirits high and they had fun with it and the fans appreciated it =) we all are wishing the ACDG the best for this season, it is going to have challenges but you will make it through and be better for it in the long run...

Burn, Wildfires, Burn!!!

EVERY aspect of their game was on last night, great job by ALL, awesome win!!! Seeing this team play is something special, I really hope the rest of the derby world is watching what the SDDD is doing with their undaunted commitment to both flat and banked track. It is a beautiful thing...
Oh, btw, welcome to SDDD, CheerBleedHer!!! You are a wonderful addition and the SDDD is lucky to have you! Thanks!!!
And, of course, thank you Dirty South! Have fun on the banked track at the Doll House today!

Ejected!!! Wooooopaaa!

Hey BareMaximum

Thanks for the shout out! But not that frustrated. I had a great time with those atlanta girls and I would love to have them back sometime! At least my ejection was at the end of the game plus the "back block" was caught on camera and its dam hilarious! I got a major back block that made me fly into another girl but for some reason the ref didnt see that. He just saw me slam into the atlanta girl. oh well.

Pop Pop ACDG I love you guys!!

Banked Track Score

I haven't seen it posted anywhere - it wasn't a figment of my imagination that ATL went bitraxtual, was it?

Mixup scrimmage

The closed-to-the-public banked game ended up being a pickup game between teams of mixed ATL and SDDD, not a straight up Atlanta vs San Diego matchup, so no, there is no score from that one (I mean, I'm sure there was one, but if we tried to cover the results of every closed informal scrimmage, we would all die faster than we are already dying.)

Love to So Cal!!!

I was SOOOO upset not being able to play!!!! Both ACDG and SDDD ROCKED it!! ACDG played hard till the very end, and kudos for playing a short roster! As for SDDD well.... holy crap! This team is sooo freaking amazing. Whatever they did in their off season it worked! They are a force and having the #15 spot really doesn't hold a candle to their level of play. Great to watch. Will be even better when I get to play!
