London, TX Hustlers Meet in International Action

LONDON, ENGLAND -- In the first years of the 21st century, when future Texas Rollergirls were meeting in Sixth Street bars in Austin, planning to start a roller derby league and flat track roller derby, none of them had any inkling the sport would grow to nearly 400 leagues and 10,000 skaters worldwide. Now in 2010, members of that pioneering league head across the Atlantic Ocean to not only run an international boot camp, but to take on the top rated derby team in Europe with the first ever official US-UK bout.

This bout will be covered live on DNN via video at 6pm London time (2pm Eastern, 1pm Central, 12noon Mountain, 11am Pacific) on Saturday, March 20.

On Saturday, London Brawling will skate against the Hustlers from the Texas Rollergirls in Austin, Texas in the United Kingdom. While that is the featured bout in the London Rollergirls' "Fistful of Rollers" double-header, the London Brawl Saints will also take on the Glasgow Rollergirls' Irn Bruisers.

The Hustlers finished second last year in the Texas Rollergirls 2009 league competition, and took the defending champions down to a last second jam of a mini-bout in February. The Hustlers feature all-star jammers Molotov M Pale and Bloody Mary, as well as the very effective Acute Angel. This team also features all-star blockers such as Belle Starr, Curvette, and Fearlys.

London Brawling won the Roll Britannia Tournament in 2009 featuring 12 teams from UK and Germany, leaving them considered the top derby team in Europe by most regional derby fans. The home team from London will feature a good deal of depth at the jammer position with Sky Rockit, Fox Sake, captain Kamikaze Kitten, and vice-captain Poison Arrow. Top blockers include Stephanie Mainey and Ena Flash. The London Rollergirls were formed in 2006 so by most derby standards are considered a veteran league.

London Rollergirls officials are expecting a record European derby event crowd. This bout will take place at ExCel London, One Western Gateway in London, England. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first bout scheduled to roll at 6:30.
